Cozumel Country Club www.cozumelcountryclub.com.mx
This is an 18 hole Nicklaus designed course. I am not a golfer, but am told it is an excellent course. Green fees are steep, but golf packages are available with several hotels (check their website for details). Services and amenities include:
Museo de la Isla de Cozumel www.cozumelparks.com.mx
The history of Cozumel is represented in it museum which is located in the building that was the first luxury hotel opened on the island in 1936. You will also see interesting exhibits about the parks and coral reefs of Cozumel.
Punta Sur National Park www.cozumelparks.com.mx
This ecological park is located at the southernmost point of the island. Points of interest here include Columbia lagoon, the Celarain Lighthouse Museum, mangrove swamps and a large variety of birds, reptiles, fish and fragrant vegetation. The park is dedicated to the preservation of local flora and fauna. There are a variety of activities to keep you busy here including the museum, beaches for swimming, and organized excursions through the jungle and boat trips into Columbia Lagoon.
San Gervasio Ruins www.cozumelparks.com.mx
Experience the mystery of Mayan culture right here on the island. San Gervasio is the largest archeological site on the island. Inhabited from 200AD to the Spanish conquest, it was the sanctuary of the Goddess X’chel as well as an important commercial, political and cultural center for the Maya.
Chankanaab Park www.cozumelparks.com.mx
The highlight of this park is the Chankanaab lagoon, which name means “small sea” in Mayan. The beach at Chankanaab is a great place for snorkeling and even diving. There is an on-site dive shop or you can take your own equipment. The beach has lounge chairs, palapas, full service restaurants, stores and bathrooms. A great place to spend the day with your family.
Cinepolis (located in the “mall” behind Chedraui)
Cozumel now has a modern movie theater with stadium seating and newly released US movies. Most movies are in English with Spanish subtitles, but it is best to check ahead of time. Prices are $40 pesos for adults and on Wednesdays all movies are $20 pesos all day! What a better way to spend a rainy afternoon in Cozumel?
