“Great First Ocean Dive!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 weeks ago
So the purpose of visiting Cozumel was to go dive. One of our friends wanted to use Christi’s shop as she had dove with her several times before. Honestly, at first I wasn’t initially impressed. We submitted our gear sizes several times and it seemed a little disorganized (albeit I wasn’t communicating with Christi so I’m not sure whose fault that was). That being said, we signed up for 4 days of diving and, ultimately, added a twilight/night dive as well. All I can say is that for my first time diving in the ocean it was AMAZING and I wouldn’t have wanted another crew! Nivo, the boat captain, was with us the entire time. He was a friendly, hard working guy that seemed to know where to go. He took care of us and our gear and always had a smile. We had Adrian for day one and it was funny because he seemed to know all of the other guys on all the other boats. But he, too, took care of us well. Pedro, the divemaster with us on 8 of the dives, took care of us. He was very clear on depths, went over dangers, reviewed signals, helped us figure out our weights, and was a very friendly and personable guy. There was one dive where the tanks were a little less than 3,000. One set was at about 2,700 and when you’re a newer diver that 300 definitely makes a difference trying to keep up with the pros in the group. Regardless, my complaints were small and didn’t detract from the overall excellent rating I feel these guys earned. I would recommend them to anyone as well as use them again!Visited January 2016

“Blue XT Sea Diving is the best dive operation in Cozumel!”
5 of 5 starsReviewed January 10, 2016
My boyfriend and I took a dive trip to Cozumel in December. This was my first official diving expedition since becoming certified in May soI didn’t know what to expect. Christi greeted us at our hotel to make sure we were set and to confirm our dives for the week. Pedro, Arturo put me at ease and they are incredible dive masters. Nivo was so friendly and an excellent boat captain. Bandida 2 is the fastest boat on the water, the trips to the dive sights were smooth and relaxing. The diving was spectacular, Pedro and Arturo know exaclty what to look for and where to find it. I finally got to see a shark! And SO MANY TURTLES! We will definitely be back!Visited December 2015

“Pedro is the BEST DM…anywehere”
5 of 5 starsReviewed January 8, 2016
I visit Cozumel at least twice a year (and try to get there more). I have been diving with Blue XT Sea every time for the past several years (so at least 50 dives?). Christi keeps the back-office stuff simple and friendly. She has a great (and very fast) dive boat that picks us up right outside of our condo. She keeps the dive groups small, which is key–avoid the cattle-call big boats where all you get is 20 minutes and silt in your face. “Scuba whisperer” Pedro is the absolute best DM in the business. I am a better diver because of him and learn something new on every trip. I will be back in February and looking forward to more amazing Cozumel diving. Blue XT Sea is safe, fun, and there is no better dive company on the island.Tiggo
“Fantastic Diving and Service”

We are so thrilled that we finally decided to give Christi and her operation a try. We have been diving with another shop for our 4 previous Cozumel trips over the past several years. We weren’t necessarily unhappy with our old shop, we just weren’t excited about them anymore with too many staff changes. We have now found our favorite Cozumel dive staff. We were there during a really busy time and dove 10 days. We had the opportunity to dive with Pedro, Arturo and Adrian and loved them all. They each have their own unique style. Pedro very serious at first but really opened up and was quite the life of the boat within a few days of getting to know us. He is a skilled master in the water and was able to point out things we had never seen. Arturo is the zen master. He does not move in the water and is so captivating to watch. He has eyes for the tiny micro creatures. Engage him in a conversation about marine mammals and you’ll learn a ton. He has a masters degree from Washington State in marine biology studying the whales. Adrian was also very funny and personable and a great divemaster. We only dove with him once on Pedro’s day off but we enjoyed diving with him. Nivo and Gabrielle a/k/a Chonito were our boat captains. Again, both were very professional, friendly and were extremely helpful getting us on and off the boat and packing up our gear. They were both right there waiting each time we surfaced which was comforting with all of the boats out there. The reservation and check-in process was a breeze working with Christi, the owner. They don’t have a shop downtown or open to the public. We had a little concern over this before booking, but we immediately found that was not an issue at all. Communication was easy and timely and Christi came to the hotel and picked up our gear the night before our first dive day. Anytime we needed to reach her, all we had to do was call or e-mail and we never had trouble reaching her. She always got back to us right away even after she left to be with family for the holidays. We were even invited to the staff Christmas party, but unfortunately we had already planned to go to the main land that day. It was an honor to receive the invitation.
Thank you Blue XT Sea team for a wonderful vacation. We will be back sooner than later we hope! We are already hating the cold here at home.

This was our fourth trip with BlueXT Sea. We love the service and the diving. I feel 100% safe when diving with these guys. I have thought about trying something cheaper, but you get what you pay for. If you have the air and deco time, these dives are 60 to 70 minutes. We saw eagle rays, turtles, Sharks, splendid toad fish, nudibranchs, and so much more. 70 minute night dive was fabulous. I never worry about myself or my family when we are diving with this outfit. Only downside – now I am spoiled.Visited December 2015

We booked three days of diving with Pedro, Adrian, and Nivo of Blue XT Sea and loved it so much we booked a fourth day.We couldn’t have asked for a better team to guide us – professional, competent, efficient (they work so well together!), extremely organized, friendly, fun, and very knowledgeable about diving and the local waters. They took very good care of everyone and everything on the boat.
Adrian was our DM for all four days and we are so grateful for his teaching, experience, and knowledge of the reefs. He gave us pointers to improve our diving, took us to places we would not have gone to on our own, and showed us many beautiful things we would have missed.
This diving experience was *amazing* – witnessing the care Adrian showed for the reef and the creatures living there, seeing the fabulous dive sites Pedro selected, the opportunity to meet and learn from Adrian, Pedro, and the other divers. Whipping along on the Bandida II was a blast, too!
Christi was very, very helpful and an excellent communicator and we would like to thank her and her team for making our week of diving an absolutely outstanding one.
We are already planning our next trip back and we can’t wait to book with Blue XT Sea again!

I started diving with Blue XT Sea 10 years ago. I only get down there once every couple of years, but every time I go, I am reminded why I think so highly of them. The personal service, the small boat, the attention to safety getting on the boat, in the boat, entering the water, the dive itself, and the return. Pedro makes sure I’m happy, and teaches me something new on every dive. He gives me the attention I need, and lets me increase my skill level at my pace. My husband and I recently got talked into giving Cozumel another try by some dear friends of ours. They have been diving with Christie and her team for 7 years. We’ve heard the hype for all of those years and finally decided to go with them on a trip. WOW is all I can say. From the first e-mail even until we returned home all of our questions and concerns were answered. I don’t think more than 6 hours ever passed without a response from Christie. During our trip, we had a scheduling issue on our own part and due to no fault of BXT. Christi promptly and easily “fixed” the schedule for us with no questions. Any time we needed to reach her during our trip, we were able to or she called us back promptly.
The diving was better than we remembered or expected. Perhaps it was the super hero dive team, the fast comfortable, clean uncrowded boat, the wonderful snacks, the towels, the fresh shower, or the fact that they kept our gear for us. This was truly one of the very best dive trips we have ever had in our 20 years of diving. We dive regularly in Bonaire and Cayman, but Cozumel, Blue XT Sea and casa Mexicana may be our new favorite combination.
Pedro, Nivo and Arturo, what can I say. A truly remarkable team. They are skilled, professional, entertaining and obviously love what they do. Pedro has logged over 11,000 dives and has been with Blue XT Sea for over 10 years, that is rare. Arturo has also worked on and off for the BXT team for as long as they’ve been in business and Nivo the captain has been with the team for 5 years. Sadly, we did not get to meet Christie in person as she was away tending to a family medical issue, but we did speak to her and her assistant Norma on several occasions and look forward to meeting them on our Spring trip. yes, we WILL be back.
Our search is over for our new favorite dive shop. Thank you Christie, Pedro, Arturo, Nivo, Santos (the guy that washed our gear so we didn’t have to) and Norma for a truly wonderful trip that has restored our faith and love for Cozumel. We will see you again in the Spring.

Two things that distinguish Blue XT Sea vs other dive shops we’ve used here in Cozumel are the bottom time we get (at least 70 minutes) and the great snacks on the surface interval. Then of course there are Pedro, Mr. Zen Divemaster, and Nivo, the Boat Capitan, who make every experience enjoyable. Can’t say enough good things about the folks at Blue XT Sea. Yes, that includes the office staff and Christi, the owner. Great Group!!Visited November 2015

“Blue XT Sea Diving is the Best!”
5 of 5 starsReviewed November 21, 2015
The staff of Blue XT Sea Diving is fantastic. We dove with them the first week of November this year. They were prompt with picking us up everyday and were accommodating to all of our needs. Their small boat was fast to the dive sites and we were treated like VIPs everyday. The boats only carry six divers plus crew which made for a great diving experience -not the usual 15-20 divers fighting to get close to the same turtle. We dove four dives a day for five days and on three of the afternoon dives it was only the dive master, my wife, and I! Surface intervals were spent docked on the shore ad the snacks were plentiful and delicious. Pedro, Arturo, and Adrian were excellent dive masers and Nivo, the boat captain, was prompt to get us out of the water and made sure our needs were well cared for. Our equipment was cleaned and dried by the staff daily and the service is one of the best valet services we have experienced. Christi had arranged our package to include our rooms at Casa Mexicana which was close tot he dock and very nice with a fantastic breakfast buffet. I would highly recommend Blue XT to anyone going to Cozumel.Visited November 2015

This was our first time in Cozumel, but it won’t be our last. From the beginning contact with Christie, she answered every question we had about the dive op to places to stay in Cozumel. The check-in procedure was so easy just a phone call when you get there. The diving was amazing! I had never dove in the ocean before so the first time was nerve racking but they told me I had nothing to worry about. The fabulous crew Nivo, Pedro and Adrian helped with anything you needed, pointed out sharks, sea turtles, grouper, eels… you name it! The boat was fast, clean and comfortable. The valet service was awesome we were picked up at the pier by our hotel every day and were able to leave your gear with them for the week. Each dive they would have it set up and ready to go for you! I loved all of the amenities including bottle water, towels, fruit, pastries, and fresh water shower. The stops in between dives at the beach clubs were an extra bonus! They do everything to make your experience a good one! Thanks Blue XT for a great trip!Visited October 2015

Arturo is the best dive master I could ever ask for. He was very patient, knowledgeable, kind and kept us so safe!! The boats are comfortable and they get you to your dive fast!! It’s a nice touch that they provide snacks and drinks! I had such a great time that I carried Christi’s business card in my wallet for nine years!! I even kept the t-shirt. We came back this year and one of my first phone calls was to Christi!! This year was another great experience. Christi even gave me a new t-shirt!! My friends are Dive Masters and they always dive with Blue XT. I’m a new OW diver and prior to this trip only had 18 dives, the deepest was 60ft, all in the Keys.
When Pedro Pablo said 80 ft on our first dive, my mouth dropped open. He looked right at me and said, “Don’t worry, I’ve got you. Just stay calm.” He did all that and more on all of our dives. These last 3 days, he pushed me to my limits, and showed me things I could never have imagined in my wildest dreams. He took me by the hand, and guided me through the most difficult and amazing diving experience of my life. I can’t say enough wonderful things about Pedro. I’ll never forget this trip!!6 amazing dives, Palancar Gardens, Dalila, Columbia Deep and Shallows, Palancar Bricks & Caves…each one with a “WOW” factor OFF THE CHARTS!!
You worry for NOTHING diving with Blue XT… I would give them 10 stars!!! They pick you up at your condo; they’re always on time; they care for, and assemble your equipment, supply water and snacks for the trip, and do everything to make your dive experience with them the best it can be.
I know why my friends always choose Blue XT. Thank you so much for making my first Cozumel diving experience truly incredible!!

“Best Diving Experience”
5 of 5 starsReviewed September 8, 2015
We recently dove with Blue XT Sea in Cozumel. We’ve used a few different shops on the island over the past ten years and were looking for a change this trip. We wanted to deviate from our budget friendly operator and see if there really was a difference. Much to our delight, the difference was exceptional and worth every penny of the extra cost. “You get what you pay for” really applies withthis shop. There are several ops that tout valet service, and they deliver to a degree but not to the level we experienced with Blue XT Sea. Every detail was taken care of. From our initial contact with Christie (prompt, personal & professional telling us everything we needed to know), to the easy check-in procedures (just a phone call vs having to go to the shop), the diving (Cozumel diving is fabulous), the fabulous crew (Nivo, Pedro and Arturo are the cream of the crop), the boat (cleanest, roomiest and most comfortable we have been on in Cozumel) and amenities (fresh fruit, plenty of bottled water, towels, fresh water shower, delicious snacks) and even the follow up from Christie after we returned home. The only thing we would have changed about our trip would have been to stay another week. We have dove with the rest but have now found the best dive home for us. We will be back Christie, Pedro, Nivo and Arturo. Thanks for a wonderful time!Visited August 2015

My wife and I just returned from our first dive trip in 8 years. We used Blue XT in Cozumel, and it was simply amazing. The crew (DM Pedro and Captain Nivo) were wonderful, and took great care of us, ensuring we quickly got back in the swing of things. There was only one other diver on the boat for most of the week, so the amount of personal attention was great.Everything all the commenters here and on Scubaboard say (i.e., fast boats, great service, long bottom times, etc) are true. I won’t spend time gushing and repeating it. I will say, my wife noted how clean the boat was kept and how efficiently Nivo and Pedro moved around changing tanks, etc. I’ve never seen anything quite like it, and it’s just indicative of how the whole operation is run.
Christi, the owner, is a pleasure to work with. She was responsive both before and during the trip. She went out of her way to make a night dive my wife wanted to do work, even though we were the only people on the boat. Also, make sure and grab her restaurant list off the Blue XT website – we found lots of good food off of there.
This was our first time in Cozumel, but it won’t be our last. I for sure won’t bother trying another dive op – It can’t get better than this! Thanks Blue XT for a great trip!

“Wonderful experience with Blue XT Sea Diving for our first trip to Cozumel”
5 of 5 starsReviewed August 24, 2015
This is just another good review for Blue XT Sea Diving, so it may not be that helpful… 🙂Blue XT was recommended to me by a friend of mine who dove with them many times and has always been very satisfied. We were staying at the Allegro but I did not want to use the hotel dive shop which was too big, I was looking for an operation with small boats, I had a few names but decided to go with Blue XT and I was not disappointed. We did 10 dives (5 days) and the largest group was 5 divers, most of the time it was my wife and I, plus 1 or 2 divers and the DM, great.
The crew (Arturo and Nivo) was great and helpful. We usually dive without a dive master but that’s not how it works in Cozumel, nonetheless it was so cool to follow Arturo without wondering where to go next, just relax and enjoy the scenery… Plus Arturo’s sharp eye is so good at finding out those tiny little species which we would usually miss. The fast boat picked us up at 8:30 (always on time) at the Allegro peer, the dive sites were usually a short trip from the pier, and brought us back around 12:30. We liked that format, 1st dive, 1h or so break, then a 2nd 60 minute or so dive. This left the afternoons open to relax.
Since it was our first time, I cannot really comment on the dive sites, the first dive of the day was usually a wall, some of them with gorgeous swim throughs, and the second usually “hills and valleys”. Different scenery, different fish, more or less current, but always nice.
In case you plan to do night dives, plan carefully, depending on where you are staying, and how many people in the party, they may not come to pick you up… So we could not do a night dive, we would have needed to take a taxi to go to the arbor… Too cumbersome, will plan differently next time.
We will be back asap.

From pickup to drop off, they take care of everything, including taking good care of our gear. I really appreciate being able to dive my available air and regularly log 60-70 minutes dives with the AL80 tanks. I will occasionally make a dive or two with other ops on the island but always come away less than completely satisfied. Not so with Blue XT Sea.

“Best diving ever in Cozumel!”
5 of 5 starsReviewed August 24, 2015
I have been traveling to Cozumel since my honeymoon in 1996 to dive and vacation, and I have to say that my recent trip in June 2015 was some of the best diving I have ever had!Christi runs a top notch dive op with an excellent boat with a FULL cover (I have vitiligo so staying in the shade on the surface is very important to me) and it is very fast and comfortable!
Pedro the DM is as good as it gets, with over 10,000 dives – he knows what he is doing and even after 10,000 – he still LOVES it! You can tell just by the way he dives – he is having just as much fin as his divers! Excellent guide and always put us right where he wanted to! He lets you dive your air/computer and – one of the best things – he does not “swim you out of time”. I can’t count how many times I have had less than stellar DM’s swim WITH the current to make you keep up/blow through your air so you can get out of the water faster. With Pedro – you go with the flow and if you have good air management skills – you will get max/safe NDL bottom time every time!
Fresh water and snacks after the dives and dry towels, they handled all of my equipment with no worries.
I just can’t say enough good things!
I have dove with 5 other ops over the last 20 years and I can say without a doubt that BXTSEA is one of the best on La Isla!!!!!!!!!
Can’t wait to go back!

Diving with Blue XT Sea Diving over the last 4.5 years has been one of the great parts about living in Cozumel. Those of us who live here, either retired or working part time, tend to be very picky about the companies we do business with on the Island. This is a company that cares about the divers’ comfort, safety, diving experience and the reefs that are their underwater home. With Captain Nivo at the helm, there is never a missed drop point on any of the reefs, and the boat is always in view when you surface. The boat is clean, your gear is handled with respect and water and a towel are waiting when you come back onboard.
Dive Master Pedro Pablo leads you from area to area of the reefs, always keeping your diving experience in mind. Pedro Pablo is always pointing out the sleeping and free swimming sharks, turtles and even the smallest nudibranchs, making sure that you miss nothing during the dive, while keeping both you and the reefs safe. Your experience and ability dictate the length of your dive as you dive your computer.
Owner Christ Courtney and her right hand man Santos keep your dive gear clean and ready for the next spectacular dive, while seeing to the creature comforts that enhance your diving experience. Fresh fruit and pastries, water and juices are onboard for your surface interval, and you are always greeted with a smile, a handshake or a hug.
Blue XT Sea Diving doesn’t necessarily have customers, they have members of a growing and happy family.

I’ve dive with this op in the past and know them as one of the best on the Island. As the saying goes you pay for what you get. Their operation is not cheap and pricier than most, but the cost is for the service and class of operation. This is the reason I chose them over others. The boat has been refurbished and have two fast motors that spring you to the sites in a hurry. They are also quiet and effective. Makes for easier communication on the boat.
Their op only caters to six divers, so as to keep the boat roomy for all. Their DM’s are all phenomenal with Pedro Pablo as a legend on the Island. He is sought after for his experience and my only regret is that I only dove with him one day. I always catch him on a vacation break when I come down.
This year it was a special run since I was able to certify my son. Although there was mixups with the referral mostly due to my referring instructor who was NAUI, Christi was able to work out the kinks. She also made it happen for him to dive during the week, which was awesome. My son gathered some priceless memories and experience. The more dives he made the better his skills were. Thank you Arturo for the outstanding training you provided my son. Your patience and abilities as an instructor made the transition easy.
Lastly their boat captain, Nivo, is outstanding as well. He safely monitors the waters while your down and picks you up on point. He is awesome and one of the best captains on the island!! He knows the waters and the currents. He also helps get you on board and switches your gear without a hitch. A true artist!!
I will be back next year and looking forward to my dives again with this class operation.

I have dove with Blue XT Sea Diving now for about 2 years and I always feel so spoiled. The thing I love the best, when I’ve finished my last dive for the day, the staff completely pack up my bag (not my wetsuit) and it’s ready to go when we reach the dock. If I plan on diving with them the next day (or whenever) they take my dive bag back to their shop and fresh water rinse all my gear. The next day when I get on the boat, my gear is all setup ready for my dives. They have a fresh water shower to rinse off. They have cold water (or room temp whatever you prefer), some kind of bread / pastry and fresh fruit. The staff, Pedro (dive master) or Arturo (dive master and Captain (Nivo) are amazing ( I refer to them as the dream team 🙂 ). The boat is a fast boat so you are back from your dives by at least 1:00 pm and I love that. The boat is big which allows plenty of space between divers and space for your fins and dive bags. I have nothing bad to say about this company, they simply ROCK!!!!!Visited June 2015

Pedro is as good a DM as you can find on the island. Safety conscious. Always making sure everyone has input on the dive location and is having fun, locating exotic critters. We stayed down town this trip at Suites Bahia. Pedro and Captain were waiting for us at the Aldora Pier right in front of our hotel every morning. Great boat Bandida raced us out to the best reefs down south and got us back in time for lunch, and a nap, before enjoying all the rest of beautiful Cozumel in the evenings. They just make everything really easy and their service is a clear cut above the rest we’ve tried. And we’ve tried A LOT of them. Our sincerest thanks for making our trip so special. Cheers from the Bay Area gang! Love you guys.

“Fantastic dive operator”
5 of 5 stars – Reviewed June 21, 2015 NEW
We stay in the El Cantil condos when we travel to Cozumel…or we will from now on…our stay there was out of this world and I will write a separate review of those condos a little later. I want to stress how important it is to find the right marriage of boat captain and dive master. It’s a funny thing if you are a diver. It just needs to click between the different personalities and its not an easy task for a dive shop to be able to corral all the personalities and make everyone happy. This can only happen when the owner of the shop has employed the right folks. This is not a twelve man boat with two DMs and an igloo of warm water type dive operator. It’s not a large smokey diesel barge operator with super easy in and outs where a diver with bad habits can hide amongst the cattle and keep being a troublesome diver. This is an operator with DMs with over 20000 dives between two DMs, Pedro and Arturo, a lifetime of experience and terrific skills with the boat captain Nivo and an attention to detail that will keep you safe and make you a better diver.
I was challenged here to make :60 plus bottom times on standard tanks. I reached :76 minutes one dive and that was with technique suggestions from an experienced DM I trusted. I’m a new diver in the scheme of things, only around 60 plus dives under my belt. I’m learning and always will be but you only progress with someone nudging you and someone you can trust to allow that to happen in your mind. Blue XT Sea attracts seasoned divers and where we stayed dictated who we’d use.
We dove 14 dives with this operator and were given amazing personal attention and were showed fauna and flora that was greatly diverse and amazing. The wow factor about Cozumel diving is well documented so you can research that separately. We also brought our new 14 year old who was a newly minted diver and he was guided along in a non pressure environment and he saw things on his first 10 dives that would take most people 5 years to see over various Caribbean locales.
Without a doubt Blue XT Sea is our dive operator of choice because those in the know know.

Blue XT~Sea Diving in Cozumel, in my opinion, is the best all around dive operator in Cozumel. I have been diving in Cozumel since 1999, and have used 6 or 7 other operators and Blue XT~Sea’s expertise and excellent customer service are evident. The other operators were fine as far as they went, but not in the same class. What I like best is they let you dive YOUR air and computer resources, not a pre-determined time, regardless. The valet service for gear is a big plus. Thanks for everything!Visited April 2015

6/18/15. Just back in TX from CZM. My sons, 15 and 17, and I dove with this company, for 5 tanks total. 4 tanks of day dives, 1 tank night dive. The crew is great. They know their business and their island, above and below water. It’s obvious they enjoy doing their jobs. They were very helpful and informative and communicated well, in English if you’re concerned about it. They only take out small groups, max 6, so if you’re concerned about getting cheated out of bottom time due to someone you don’t even know using up their tank in 20 minutes, relax. The DM coordinates so only that person safely goes up with a partner, and YOU get to stay down and enjoy what you’ve paid for. These guys even remember what equipment you used and needed on your earlier trip, and will have it ready on the boat for you, including the proper amount of weights. Very organized and prepared!
I was told about this company by a diving neighbor that I trust, and I’m glad I listened. That same neighbor also has relatives living in Cozumel that had recommended this company to her. When family and friends both recommend a company, that’s a strong recommendation.
Book in advance, they’re busy! Spend the few extra dollars more than you would pay for the cattle boats, it’s well worth it and you will be glad you did.

Personal attention and we got to choose where to go dive. I had some trouble getting down on my first dive (had my first ever panic attack). Pedro Pablo was amazing, calmed me down, and stayed by my side the entire dive to make sure I was okay. Dove with Arturo the second day. Arturo was wonderful, pointing out things we might have missed. First class operation! They keep the group small in order to give the personal attention to each diver. I watched other boats leave with 15-20 divers… Was so pleased we had small groups and got to know the crew. We will go to Cozumel again and will definitely always dive with Blue XT Sea dive crew!!!Becky H
I have been diving Cozumel for a number of years, and this trip I decided to go with Blue XT Sea Diving. It was the best dive trip I’ve ever had in all my years down there. The crew is a well oiled machine. The DM, Pedro, is the best I have dove with in all of my travels. The boat is well maintained and fast, and it was apparent safety is of utmost importance. It was a bit chilly after a few dives, and surface intervals included hot tea with honey…talk about full service! Towels, jackets, knowledgable staffing managing equipment…it was unlike any experience I’ve ever had. I really didn’t know what I was missing. Other operators on the island will not always take you to the best dive sites (too cheap, I guess), and they will short you on bottom time. Blue XT Sea got us out to the Palancars every day that it was possible and I also enjoyed several trips to Punta Sur…too far for many other operators, again too cheap I guess. And then there is Christi, owner/dive instructor…wow, what a gem! Christi took personal interest in my diving while I was there. What a fantastic gal! I plan on using Blue XT Sea exclusively from now on.TM
Absolutely LOVE Christi and Pedro. AMAZING customer service, FUN, FUN, FUN people to be around! They made diving a treat spoiling us every single way, from hucking gear, to good treats, to FANTASTIC dive sites. We had a group of 6 divers with us and every single one of us feel the same way. Marvelous vacation we will do again and again.Theresa B
Always love coming back to see all the great folks at Blue XTSea. Brought our 13 year old with us this year and he finished up his certification. Couldn’t have possibly been happier with how everyone worked with him and the knowledge he gained. He can’t wait to come back for his next dives. First class operation that always impresses us.Bryan
Blue XT Sea is a great organization to dive with, The Divemasters (Pedro and Arturo) are very experienced and know the dive sites intimately. Most importantly they let you dive your computer if you’re capable and help out if you need it. The boat Captain, Nivo, does the job of at least two people,,,,he can bring a diver onboard and switch or stow the gear all while keeping an eye out for the currents, other boats and divers still in the water.Your gear is stored every day, rinsed and then setup for your dives the next day…..nothing is forgotten or out of place and the boat is well designed for getting people to/from the dive sites and into/out of the water.
We were fortunate enough to be in Cozumel for Blue Xt Sea’s 13th anniversary. It was a great celebration and fun to be with all the Blue XT Sea family…..crew and divers who return year after year. We’ll be back next year and will always dive with Blue XT Sea when we’re in Cozumel.

I and my great nephew needed to complete our open water dives to become certified. I was both excited and nervous to do this. A friend told us about Blue XT Sea Diving so we booked with them! What a fantastic experience, Christi took great care of us, made sure we had the paperwork we needed to have etc.; her service was before, during, and after our dives. First class. Juan our DM was an excellent instructor, with many many years of experience. It was just the two of us, the Captain and our DM Juan. Whether you are a novice to scuba diving or well seasoned, you cannot go wrong with this company! I highly recommend them and fully intend to book them again. They know the waters, the gear was in excellent shape and ready to go. Cozumel waters spoil you with their beauty; Blue XT Sea Diving will spoil you with their customer centered service. Thank you guys for one of my all time best experiences and memories! And I will see you again!Amy
I can’t say enough nice things about Blue XT Sea Diving. They run a great dive shop. They were accommodating, fun, energetic and most of all knowledgeable. I felt completely safe in their hands. The dive teams were all amazing and experienced. Shout Outs to Mago, Pedro and Miguel for making our week of diving memorable and relaxing. If you are not diving with Blue XT Sea in Cozumel, you are not diving Cozumel right 🙂 Also, I would suggest that if you are lucky enough to dive with Mago, Pedro and/or Miguel, let them offer some suggestions of which sites to dive. They are truly very knowledge and know which sites are offering the best diving. Click Here to Read MoreKelly
My spouse did ask, “do you really have to dive with them again? The budget is really tight.” “Yes,” was the no-brainer reply. I may spend just a few dollars more, but service, quality of staff and attention to detail always are worth it. Christi never fails to try and pair divers in the best possible way. This trip was, by far, the best grouping I’ve every enjoyed. Pedro Pablo, Mago and the rest of the staff are first rate. Click Here to Read MoreCraig
My wife and I just got back from diving on Cozumel with Blue XT Sea Diving. It was our 10 th time diving with them. As usual they exceeded all our expectations.Christy, the owner got back to us quickly about booking our dives and answering any questions we had. On our dive days we got picked up right off the beach in front of our hotel. Her dive boats are very fast and can reach the far out reefs in no time at all. Her crew is very friendly, professional and experienced and will go out of their way to help you. They also put a high premium on safety. All our dives lasted over an hour. When we surfaced from our first dive each day we were given dry towels and wind breakers! And during our surface interval each day we were treated to muffins and fruit and juice. Can’t beat that! Christy will also hold your gear and rinse it off every night so you don’t have to lug it back and forth to and from the dive boat each day. Whether you are a new diver or very experienced you will have a great time diving with them, no question about it.I can’t say enough about them. My wife and I enjoy diving with them very much and look forward to our next trip. Click Here to Read MoreMario & Chris
If you are looking for a great diving experience for a relatively small group, this is your answer. Christi is laser focused on providing great service to her customers. The boats are smaller (and faster), the captain we were with (Luis) provided a comfortable and efficient ride to the dive sites. Our divemaster, Miguel Reyes, worked with us to get us ready for some fantastic dives, even though our kids were newly minted open water divers. We gave him some ideas of what we wanted, and he got us into some amazing terrain. We have friends that dive with Blue XT Sea as well, and love another of their divemasters – Pedro. Either way, I don’t think you can go wrong. We spent three days with them for two-tank dives each morning. It set the mood for a fantastic family vacation. Christi is also very willing to work with accommodating needs. We stayed in a villa a few blocks from the waterfront (Castillo del Rey) and walked to the public pier each morning. She can pick up about anywhere. Equipment was there, in good shape, with some backup regs and the like in case something went wrong. Click Here to Read MorePrice Family
I have been diving in Cozumel for 10+ years and have hundreds of dives there. I like to dive on the small boats with “boutique” service, eg: matching of divers with similar experience levels, gear cleaning and storage between dives, wide choice of dive site selection, extended surface intervals, aggressive profiles on the dive sites that require it, and extended bottom times. Over this time I have used seven different CZM dive ops and most were very good. However, I now dive with Blue XT Sea exclusively and highly recommend them for an enjoyable, safe, diving experience. Hi all, i had the opportunity to Dive in Cozumel with Blue XT Sea Diving and I can say with no doubt that those guys really made my trip to Cozumel. They really understand the reasons that move a diver to dive. Plenty of good attitude, plenty of time while you are diving (no rushes at all), towel when you are out of your dives, at the Surface Interval, then fruit, Juice, bread and a wonderful beach. The crew is a blast! There is no better diving operation there. Click Here to Read MoreMario
I would highly recommend Blue XT Sea diving to anyone who wishes to have an incredible diving experience in Cozumel Mexico. I feel the most significant difference with Blue XT Sea diving verses other Cozumel dive operations is that they have smaller groups usually having a maximum 6 divers per boat which provides very personalized and professional attention to each individual diver at all skill levels. The dive boat captains and dive masters impressed me with their professionalism and knowledge of the beautiful reefs and abundant sea life. Another key feature is that they personally take care of your dive gear between each days diving. We found our dive gear clean, prepped and ready when they pick us up on the dock in the morning. We stayed at the El Cid resort which is right on the Ocean which allowed us to be picked up by the dive boat on the resort dock in the morning. This really made things easy for us. Overall we could not be happier with our diving experience. Click Here to Read MoreBill
Have dove with Christi several times now. My wife and I and 3 boys (now 13, 16 & 19) have really enjoyed everyone associated with this company. My youngest got his advanced certification with them last year (while the rest of us enjoyed the diving!). This year, my oldest and I went for a week of great diving. Small boats mean for less crowded dives, and more flexibility. Experienced dive masters assess skills quickly and tailor the diving and in–water oversight accordingly.Christi herself is great to work with and knows the island very well. She gives honest feedback on hotels, etc. Last year we booked ourselves at El Cantil (which she recommended and we loved), and this year she booked us at Casa Mexican – where we also enjoyed a great stay.I don’t have a bad thing to say about this company – we look forward to many years of great diving with them! Christi and her crew at Blue XT Sea are wonderful. This was our first diving trip to Cozumel. Blue XT Sea was a referral from the dive master at our local scuba shop in Colorado. We dove with the same group of people all week, so we were able to make new friendships. My husband and I are new to diving, only 3 years. The group we dove with were much more experienced and really helped us advance in our diving. Miguel and Pedro are great dive masters with a lot of experience. They were great at pointing out the sea life. One day we even saw 11 Eagle Rays and finished up with a pod of 20 dolphins swimming by during our safety stop. That was awesome! Each morning when we first would get on the boat our gear was already set up and ready to go. We dove by our computers. My husband and I were usually the first to surface and Hector the boat captain was always there in a couple minutes to help us out. When we got back on the boat he had our water bottles refilled and then he would set up our gear on the new tank and give us a towel. He kept the boat very clean and neat. Christi is very nice and she even booked our hotel at Casa Mexicana for us. That is a very nice place. All in all our trip is wonderful and we are already on planning another trip back next year. Just wish we could go more often. Click Here to Read MoreBrenda & Mike
From Leon and Patricia, this was our first time diving in Cozumel. It was a great experience and Blue XT did a fantastic job. We were very impressed with the dive master. He gave us the plan, discussed safety in detail, and dived the exact profile that we had discussed. He pointed out a lot of unique sea creatures and we really enjoyed the underwater tour that we took of the reefs. But, one of the best parts was the surface interval. The food and drinks and fruit made it perfect for waiting for the second dive! Thanks a lot, and we are already making plans for next year when we will be returning. Thanks. It’s been a year since my husband and I dived with the crew of Blue XT Sea diving and posted a report. I am so happy to say that our attitude and review of this dive op has not changed. We again received top notch service and experienced awesome diving. Once again dives are based on buddy pair limits/computers with our average dives at 80 feet for 1st tank and 60 – 40 feet for second tank. All dives averaged 70 – 90 min on aluminum 80’s with plenty of air to spare. The amenities also remain the same such as towels, SI on land and SI snacks/juice provided and gear care for the duration of the trip. Wetsuit care is the responsibility of the divers. Let me follow that statement up by saying that I have made over 400 dives with Blue Xt~Sea and I would not even consider anyone else. They have certainly spoiled me. I have dived with several other shops on the Island and for my money Blue Xt~Sea is tops. When I arrive in Cozumel I get checked in and take my gear to the shop. That is the last time I touch it until it is time to go home. They keep the gear every night and rinse it and dry it and then the next morning when they pick you up at your hotel your gear is on a tank and waiting for you. Even after your last dives before heading home it is rinsed and dried and packed for my trip home. Between dives the surface interval is always at a beach club and there are always warm fresh baked goodies and plenty of fruit to eat. Of course there is always all the water you can drink. For my money the DMs are the best on the Island. Arturo has a degree in Marine Biology, and Pedro has made over 10,000 dives all in Cozumel, and Miguel is one of the best videographers on the island as well as an excellent dive master. There is not anyone that knows the sea life or the reefs better than these guys.Dives are always by your computer and they will allow you to dive to that computer. No short dives because someone else has to go up. I have made 2 hour dives with them several times; they will not rush you at anytime.I would without hesitation recommend Blue Xt~Sea to anyone going to Cozumel. In fact my 11 year old grandson wants to be certified and I will trust him to anyone else but Christi and her crew at Blue Xt~Sea diving.Christi is and angel on the island and is the most honest and straightforward person that I have had the pleasure of dealing with. Now you see why I do not even consider going anywhere else. Click Here to Read MoreChuck
We’ll Never Use Anyone Else! Christi, Arturo, and Miguel at Blue XT Sea Diving were the absolute best dive shop I’ve ever used while in Cozumel, and I’ll never use anyone else. They catered to our every need, provided us the dives we wanted to go on, with no negative comments about distance or extra fees. They took care of our equipment, even to the point of driving it out to our resort the morning we departed just to make our stay more convenient.Great attitude, great service, can’t say enough good things about this group. Awesome scuba diving experience with Blue XT Sea Diving in Cozumel! I used to think that SCUBA was only for the young and being over 60 meant “one foot in the grave” — but now I’m in the latter age group and Christi Courtney at Blue XT Sea Diving helped me prove to myself that even “high in-betweens” can have GREAT new experiences! She is a wonderful all-level SCUBA instructor – her skill (she has over 3000 dives and I never saw so many credentials!) and patience gave my husband and I the confidence to learn to dive so we could enjoy the vast beauty under the ocean at Cozumel, Mexico. Her shop is a “boutique” operation, where Christi, her boat captains and dive masters did all the hard work and we divers just stepped on the boat and headed for the reefs! Christi and her team provided equipment rentals, had air tanks waiting on the boat for each dive, provided fresh towels and snacks for surface intervals, and were excellent guides for diving the best locations to see beautiful fish, eels, all kinds of coral, and tons of other “wonders of the deep”. With a maximum of only 6 divers to a trip, we found the personal service to be outstanding. That is something often missing in this day and time so Christi and Blue XT Sea Diving get the highest recommendation from us! I am still in awe of all that we saw and did and I know we’ll be back to dive with them at every opportunity! Click Here to Read MoreSherry
A great full service operation where every member of the team LOVES their job! Blue XT~Sea Diving is the best operator I have ever dealt with. We have gone diving with them 5 times, and there is a reason why we are repeat customers. Every single employee, from the Owner, to the Captains, Divemasters, and the Shop assistant loves their job. Everyone pays such attention to detail, especially those details which affect their customers. Christi, the owner, runs a full service operation that will set up your gear, and take it for rinsing and safe storage over night. They also have smaller, fast boats. I find that these are best because there is no rocking of the boat to give you motion sickness, and no large amounts of fumes to make you sick. They also always have tons of water for everyone on the boat, as well as fresh fruit and snacks for the surface interval, which is always enough time to off gas. They do not rush anything. You dive your computer or your air tank, there is no time limit. They are not rushing from one dive to the next to get their work day over with either, like I stated previously, they love their jobs. I cannot say enough good things about the operation and everyone involved to give enough thanks for the 60+ dives we have enjoyed with them. If you are looking for a personalized, full service operation, this is your best choice. Click Here to Read MoreTrish & David
Best Service I’ve Ever had from a Dive Shop. I’ve been diving in Cozumel since 1992 and have tried many dive shops. The quality service from Blue XT Sea Diving has been beyond my expectations. The diving: We dove with Blue XT Sea Diving and were picked up a few minutes walk from the hotel. The morning of our first dive, we were greeted by Arturo, our divemaster and Mago, our captain. Pedro is on vacation for a couple of weeks. We were also greeted by “Grunt”, who as many of you know, has been sharing daily updates. Also on board Shamu for various dives throughout the week were: S. from Denver , S. and GF A. from Philly, and H. from Louisville. Arturo was great – all we had to do was let him know when we were ready to come up, based on our air consumption – the others often had dives of 70 + minutes. The currents were pretty mild on all dives.Monday, July 12: Dive 1: Palancar Caves. 76 ft. 45 min. 82˚ (others had computers that ranged from 81˚-86˚). Very little current, beautiful structures. Did not do swim throughs as we have done on previous trips, but still impressed with the beauty. 3 turtles-at one point 2 of them seemed to be playing tag with one another. Several grouper.Dive 2: La Francesa Reef. 59 ft. 55 min. 82˚. Nice, fishy dive. Was experiencing a little scratchy throat from that delightful air on the plane ride down and during this dive, throat became very dry and my reg seemed to breathe sluggishly. Created a little anxious moment for a little bit, but settled down after a minute or so.Tuesday, July 13: Dive 1: Paso Del Cedral Wall. 92 ft. 41 min. 82˚. Beautiful wall dive!!! French Angelfish all over, some large grouper, 2 turtles and 1 nurse shark under a ledge. 1 good sized lionfish in which Arturo tried to get, but the fish was able to tuck back under a ledge . . . bummer.Dive 2: Yucab Reef. 55 ft. 61 min. again 82˚. Another leisure, fishy dive. Large grouper, a few lobster, several grunts and queen angelfish. It was a playground for ocean triggerfish. They were all over, often swimming in circles.Wednesday, July 14: (Sadly, our last day of diving) Dive 1: Palancar Bricks. 86 ft. 53 min. 82˚. Favorite dive of the week! Awesome dive! Many swim throughs-reminded me of the Caves. 1 swimming nurse shark and 2 turtles. The larger turtle was having a good ole time munching away at the coral. There were two queen angelfish, a French angelfish and gray angelfish cleaning up after the turtle. Such a cool sight! They let me hang with them awhile while I took some pictures (one turned out so good and is now my computer background!- I wish I knew how to post pictures.)Dive 2: San Clemente Reef. 43 ft. 76 min. 84˚. (First dive >70 minutes!- 88th logged dive.) Very fishy dive! Grouper, arrow crabs, lobster, southern stingray, schools of grunts and snapper, scorpionfish, a tiny flounder, and much more! Like diving in an aquarium!Another great trip – much too short. Poor planning on my part. Click Here to Read MoreReid & Carlenda
Wow! This was our second trip to Cozumel and let me tell you it was like night and day! This trip we chose to dive with Blue XT~Sea after doing extensive research on many scuba forums… Christi and her crew were awesome. Small fast boats got you to the reefs very fast and they even went to reefs that some dive ops don’t go to on a regular basis. Even on bad weather days, Christi got us out diving when other boats were prohibited (by the harbormaster) to leave the “calleta”. The personalized service was great, fresh fruit, snacks and water provided between dives, small six-pack boats and the ability to choose where you want to dive all added up to make the diving all that much better. We even added an extra day of diving instead of our “beach day”.Her DMs were all very professional and went out of their way to “improve” your diving skills, our personal favorite was Pedro. When asked to find us Seahorses, he told us that on our next dive he would take us to a reef where he knew there were some, but no guarantees. Well, he found us 3 in the first 20 minutes! We hopefully are going back to Cozumel later this year and BlueXT~Sea will definitely be getting a call, no more cattle boats for us! I’ve been visiting Cozumel for the past 5 years or so with diving buddies, and for the first few visits we shopped for dive ops based on price alone. We were never quite satisfied, and a couple were downright scary. Since diving trips are so few and far between, we realized that we didn’t want to be disappointed with our dive op any longer. I researched recommended ops on the internet and found that BlueXTSea came very highly recommended. We decided to give Christi and her crew a try. Since then, we’ve never looked elsewhere. The highest recommendation I can give BlueXTSea is handing over my family to them to teach and train to be excellent divers (12 yr. old son, 12 yr old daughter and a new daughter in law). Now, all 7 in my family are certified divers, and the last 3 had the best instruction of all, directly from BlueXTSea. Christi and her staff treat you like a valued and appreciated customer and friend, not just another body on the boat. Click Here to Read MoreJones Family
We came to Blue XT Sea on very short notice because of a problem with Aldora (see my Aldora review). Christi couldn’t have been better in dealing with what could have been a very bad time.My family of 4 completed our Open Water certifications and did an additional 2 dives with them. Arturo and Ramon were the DMs we dealt with and each of them was excellent. Attentive and knowledgeable DMs, friendly and easily understood. Adan was an excellent captain. Fast, small boat. Attentive, safe, and helpful captain. Small, personable operation means more flexibility than other operations.I would recommend them to anyone, feel free to send a Personal Message to me if you want more information! This was the second time I have dove with Blue XT, 3rd trip to Cozumel and I have had a great time each time. They allow you to dive your computer and really cater to your needs. Pedro and Arturo will both give you pointers on improving your diving if you need it in a constructive way. They both have a keen eye on finding the little critters that are very difficult to spot and they know the reefs very well. They are a valet service dive shop, they will keep, clean and store your gear and have it ready for you on the boat each morning. The captains are both first rate, almost every dive I surfaced and the boat was within about 30 feet. Service intervals are at beach clubs with fresh fruit, juice and snacks. I will be diving with them again this coming May. Click Here to Read MoreBrian Z

Just got back from Cozumel staying at Casa Mexicana (downtown San Miguel) and diving with Christi’s op. In a nutshell – best 7 day vacation ever. This has been our second trip to Cozumel and there was no comparison to ‘all-inclusive’ way (Occidental Grand) we did the first time. Diving Even better! We decided to get our AOW certification this time around and ended up doing Peak Performance Buoyancy (very helpful indeed), Night diving (probably the best dive yet), Fish Id (well, it is what it is – since no other divers were interested in doing the wreck site we had to go with that) in addition to Navigation (was not quite as easy as it sounds) and Deep diving. Our instructor was Blanca and we thoroughly enjoyed diving with and learning from her. We ended up diving 5 days overall and took one day off to drive around the island and visit some touristy sites on the East side.We were done with AOW in two days and dove the rest of the time with Pedro as our dive master and two other couples. Pedro is the best dive master we ever had the pleasure of diving with – we were never feeling rushed, he took his time descending/ascending and the entire time in between, watched the group closely and kept us pointed the right way to see the critters on every single dive. We used rental regulators and BCDs – the gear was in good working order and was waiting for us completely ready to go before we would get on the boat every morning. The staff also took care of packing everyone’s gear before and after each day – so all we had to do was get out of our suits and walk back to the hotel. We dove our computer/air limits every dive, with most dives lasting 55 – 65 minutes. Surface intervals were spent on Paradise and Palancar beaches munching some fresh fruits and some local pastries provided for us. Bottled water was provided before and after each dive. We dove the following sites: El Cedral, Palancar Gardens, Palancar Bricks, San Francisco Reef, La Franchesa, Dalila, Santa Rosa wall, Punta Tunich, Paradise reef (night dive) and my personal favorite – Palancar Caves. Healthy corals, amazing swim-throughs, lots of fish – large groupers, schools of snappers/grunts, barracudas, sleeping sharks, multiple rays, turtles on every dive, some squids (although many more on the night dive), tons of squirrelfish, angelfish and parrotfish varieties, eels, as well as some small critters. I had a chance to use my new Canon S50/WP-DC300 newbie setup (internal flash) on some of the dives – so I will be posting more pictures to my gallery as they exit final processing but here is a sneak preview:Overall: we enjoyed every single dive this trip and BlueXTSea is certainly one of the top-notch diving operations in town. Blue XT Sea is a great dive op that I highly recommend. If you are a new diver (as was one of our group), rusty or just want to improve your diving try to get booked with Pedro Pablo. He shed a couple pounds off 2 of our divers and really watched everyone to see what they could do to improve their diving ability. He also shared tips such as using baby shampoo for defog which worked better than anything I have ever used. We never had more than 6 on the boat and most of the time it was just the 4 divers in our group. Boat was always on time or only a couple minutes late when they had to pick up another group. We were never pressed to come up and got in one dive at 1HR 20 min. The only negative I had, which is not inclusive with this op alone, but any using small boats is there is not a head on the boat…. My wife and I were there from May 26-June 2. We dove every day with Blue XT-Sea and stayed at El Cantil condos. Both were excellent choices. The diving: Incredible every day and night. Water temps 83 degrees every day and the usual 100 ft + excellent vis. The only visibility issue was the huge numbers of sponges spawning released clouds of white sponge splooge. We swam through so much of it I hope my wife doesn’t give birth to Spongebob Squarepants in 9 months. It really was a sight to behold. We saw hawksbill turtles on almost every dive.I can’t say enough about Blue XT-Sea. We dove with them twice before and were never disappointed. We dove with Sue Sue and Mike for three days. Some examples of their service: they give you a gear bag on your first dive with them, take the gear with them, so you never have to take it to your room, wash it, and have it set up on your tank when the boat meets you the next day. They go out of their way to match divers with similar experience levels. On two days they sent out two boats, one with 4 less experienced divers, and one boat just for the two of us, and of course we could pick our dive sites. Any other op would have put all six divers on the same boat, rather than pay a separate crew, pay for fuel etc. When we did the night dive they offered to send a second DM just for the two of us. We declined because we would be on the same reef anyway. All our dives were 1 hour or more and we could always dive our computers.Christi runs a class operation, and the DMs Arturo, Pablo and Blanca were all outstanding. Highly recommended. I write for an online magazine called Gear Patrol. I thought I’d share my piece they just published about my dive trip to Coz.
Notes From A Warmer Place: Cozumel | Gear Patrol Thanks to Christi and the gang at Blue XTSea for making it a great week for us!…Arturo, our divemaster would give a briefing about the site as we all perched on the gunwales, waiting for the signal to go. Then it was commando time, fins-up back roll entry into the sea, the surface current quickly pulling us aft of the bobbing boat. With the group together, we’d dump our air and sink weightlessly into the briny 79 degree Caribbean…. Click Here to Read MoreJason Heaton
Another Blue XT Sea Experience
We just experienced, first hand, what everyone on Scuba Board has been raving about with Blue XT Sea in Cozumel. Our stay was a week. We did 20 dives, which included two night dives. Mago was our Boat Captain for four of the twenty dives. Blanca was our Divemaster for two of the twenty dives. Our main exposure to Blue XT Sea Staff was with Adan (Boat Captain) and Arturo (Divemaster) for the remaining dives. Their performance was simply outstanding. Adan had the opportunity to display his navigation skills after our last night dive. One of the divers inadvertently came aboard without his light which was discovered missing after we were already 10 minutes away from our exit point. Adan maneuvered a gentle 360 degree turn and headed back into the dark abyss of the night-time Caribbean. He went directly back to our exit point, there was no searching; Adan went exactly to our exit point! Arturo geared-up and in less than 5 minutes was back on the boat with the wayward light.Arturo has a knack for finding the small to downright tiny critters, so much so that he dives with a small magnifying glass to display his finds. We discovered tiny critters ( pipefish & nudibranchs etc) never before noticed diving. His briefings were always easy to understand and his dive plan logical and easy to follow. Unlike other complaints on Cozumel dive operations, you get to dive your Computer with Blue XT Sea; you stay down as long as you have air and are within non-deco limits.Initially we turned up our noses at Blue XT Sea’s suggestion of diving Nitrox on the second dives. However their wisdom prevailed, with our compressed diving schedule the Nitrox kept us well within non-deco limits on repetitive diving. Something we should have known but were very thankful for their gentle persuasion to recall.Others have addressed Blue XT Sea’s policy of handling dive gear. They always had the gear assembled upon arriving at the dock to pick us up for the days, afternoons or evenings dives. While not always a policy we are comfortable with (we very much like to assemble our own gear) their professionalism soon out-weighed any anxiety we had in allowing others to set up our dive gear for us.All of our surface intervals were conducted ashore. They have fruit, juice and plenty of water available. Jackets are available for warming between extended bottom times, and fresh towels after the dives. They did have a fresh-water bucket for our underwater cameras. And if you desire, they even have a fresh-water rinse for your head after each dive.Blue XT Sea is a 6-pack operation. Consequently we would pass virtually every other dive boat leaving San Miguel on our way to the dive site. Some of the Cozumel operations have tons of divers aboard, so it was always a welcome relief to be well on our way through the dive site before they off-loaded their cargo of divers. It would be hard to imagine a circumstance where Dive XT Sea would fall short of meeting ALL of your expectations of a Dive Operator. I am in love with Blue XT Sea Diving! We just wrapped up a stellar 5 nights/4 days of diving in Cozumel. Through Christi we chose the hotel package, staying at Casa Mexicana (Christi got us a beautiful 5th floor room). Casa is about a block from the dock and no more than a 5 minute walk. The hotel employees are more than helpful and always smiling. Take it from a clean freak…this hotel was *spotless*. Christi is so on top of her business. Neglecting to remember I needed to check in at her shop the night before our first dive (which happened to be a Sunday and the shop is closed), I was wondering how we’d touch base with her. In steps the psychic friend’s network…aka Christi. Our hotel phone rings and she tells us to meet her at the shop with our gear in half an hour. The dive boat left the dock promptly at 8:00am each day. Our equipment was set up on the boat each morning and rinsed and hung to dry each night. Mago was our captain and Pedro Pablo our divemaster. The two of them share some hilarious jokes and have wonderful, contagious positive energy. They make a great team. Mago keeps close track of us and each time the first group surfaced I’d look up and check and he was right there with the boat. This operation is exceptional in that you are able to dive by your computer. This is *not* a 80-feet-for-25-minutes operation. Christi caters not only to beginning divers but also experienced divers who can stay down for 75 minutes. Pedro is the best divemaster I have been with. He doesn’t just tell you what to do; he asks you “why”. For instance, “Why do you need 14 pounds to sink?” The answer, “You start out with a dry wetsuit.” It sounds like common sense but I doubt most instructors bother to discuss this with their students. My husband went from 14 pounds to 4 thanks to Pedro. Pedro is calm and professional and friendly and competent–the ideal divemaster in my mind. The divesites were mindblowing and the life abundant. My husband and I can hardly wait to return. Oh, and don’t forget to ask Mago to do some magic tricks for you! **Christi, thank you so very much for all of your assistance and for the operation you run!** Click Here to Read MoreHeidi & Will
The Diving – Blue XT-SeaChristi of Blue XT-Sea Diving continues to demonstrate why her op is Numero Uno in Cozumel – fast boats and exceptional service – small passenger loads, towels, rain jackets, between dive snacks, bottled water early and often, pick up at various waterfront locations on the island, and great divemasters (although sadly Pedro was on vacation during our stay, but we enjoyed diving with Arturo and Juan). We had a variety of folks sharing the boat with us during our week of diving, including some less experienced divers who were low on air long before we were ready to call the dive (in one case they were done at 35 minutes – ouch!). Arturo handled this situation very capably – he would send up his smb and the air hogs/less experienced divers would ascend to 15 feet as a buddy team under his big orange sausage (and his surveillance) to do their safety stop. They would surface right next to the blob for pick up (keeping them safe from being run over by one of the armada of dive boats careening around), and we would continue on with our dive. Our dive times averaged 70 minutes, with one memorable dive at Columbia Shallows clocking in at 95 minutes. Sweet. We dove Columbia Regular, Columbia Shallows, Palancar Bricks and Caves, Delilah, La Francesa, Yucab, Cedral Wall, and Paseo del Cedral – in some cases doing a couple of dives on a couple of these sites. Currents were mild to moderate…….Many thanks to Christi and her fine crew, and to the assorted folks we met and laughed with on this trip. Cozumel still rocks!J. Click Here to Read MoreJudy G.
I wanted to post an unsolicited follow-up on my recent trip to Cozumel diving with Blue XT Sea Diving. We just got back from three nights at the Fiesta Americana yesterday. We had booked a total of 6 dives with Christi and Blue XT Sea.In a nutshell, it was probably one of the best (albeit short) dive trips I’ve ever taken. We had a limited amount of time on the island and the Blue XT Sea crew really helped us make the most of it.Pedro Pablo and Mago picked us up on the Fiesta Americana pier the afternoon of our arrival and took us straight to Palancar Caves for our first dive. For the second dive, we went to Punta Tunich. Great formations and swim throughs on the first, lots of marine life on the second. The next morning, they took us to Punta Sur and we dove Devil’s Throat. This was probably one of my single favorite dives ever. Afterwards, we did Cedral Wall.. also very nice. The morning of the last day, we dove with Blanca and she took us to Santa Rosa Wall, which was an excellent dive, followed by Paradise Reef – very chill and relaxing. In fact, I think this last dive rates as my longest dive in terms of duration as we were underwater a full hour and a half. All of the other dives were at least an hour long (shorter if you were running low on air). There was on average a total of 3-4 of us diving on the boat (not including the DM) on any given dive.During the dives, we saw lots of turtles (big ones), nurse sharks, huge lobsters, sting rays, flounder, grouper, eels, barracuda, and lots of interesting little fish.I was thoroughly impressed with how hard the crew worked to take care of all of our needs and make us comfortable on ever dive. Probably the highest level of dive service we’ve ever had. Thanks for a great time! Click Here to Read MoreJohn & Maureen (Mo)
Took our first trip to Coz May 3 – 10. It was great! We will definitely go back! Diving – Dove with Blue XT Sea. Took the advice of Christi’s fans and they are right. This is a really good op. Only 4 -6 on the boat each day. 12 day and 1 night dives averaged 63 minutes. They took our equipment each night and had it already setup each day when they picked us up at the dock. And even when they changed DM’s not only did they still know how much weight we dived with the day before they even knew how much was in the front pockets and how much went in the rear trim pockets. And they even had 1lb weights, first dive op I’ve used that had anything smaller than 2lb. DM’s and captains were really helpful getting equipment on and off, offered us lots of cold water before and after dives, and were fun to be around. SI’s were at the beach with cold water, two kinds of juice, three kind of fresh fruit and a cake like snack. DM’s were Blanca, Juan, Arturo and Pedro. All were good at finding critters. I highly recommend this op! Click Here to Read MoreDiverRex
I can’t say enough how impressed we were with Christi’s dive operation Blue XT Seadiving and her crew, especially Pedro and Hector (Mago). Two of the four days, we were the only ones on the boat!! The other two days each had only two more divers! That’s it!! No crowds here!!! They picked us up at the dock across the street from Casa Del Mar. They had our tanks set up before we got onto the boat. After handing our gear up to them from our first dive of the day, they had our gear switched over to the second tank even before we were out of the water!! They had water and fresh fruit and crackers for us on our surface interval. I learned of Blue XT Seadiving from many people who have posted on this board-I can honestly say I’m not sure there was anything else more they could have done to make our stay more enjoyable. Everyone is right on when they say it is a first rate operation!!! Click Here to Read MoreGoose
First time to Cozumel and Christi and her crew excited our expectations!! We had some of the best dives of our travels in cozumel. Palancar caves and gardens delivered big time. Beautiful swim thrus and coral formation along with lots of critters. Pedro Pablo and all the crew at bluextsea went out of their way to make sure we had the best experience possible. Stayed at the ElCid went all inclusive. The room, food and service was all exceptional. We will be back, next time for more than 5 days!! Click Here to Read MoreTom Hafke
I have been wanting to write this for a while because our trip actually took place in mid October so here goes.In mid October, my wife and I took a trip with a few friends out of the Houston area. This time we wanted to do Cozumel “on the cheap”. That is, we decided to stay in a hotel that isn’t so fancy because we found on previous trips that all the Scuba’ing takes away from desire to enjoy the benefits of full service resorts. We decided to save our money for the thing that matters most: Diving! We picked Villa Blanca and we were very pleasantly surprised especially considering we paid somewhere around $60 a night. The rooms were very clean and quiet which was basically all we wanted. I would highly recommend this place if all you are looking for is a place to sleep your off your overnight surface interval. However, one thing we didn’t skimp on was the diving and the dive operator: Blue XT Sea. This is the 3rd operator that we have used in Cozumel but so far it is the best. Christi’s attention to detail and her employee’s knowledge and service were top notch. In Pedro, our divemaster, I don’t know if you can find someone with more enthusiasm and knowledge of the local area. The small fast boats of Blue XT Sea made for a much more personal experience, and the fact that they take our gear and rinse and store every night was a very nice touch. This was the trip of medical problems with 3 out of the party of 5 having something go wrong: a migraine headache, and a sinus infection (didn’t know it until we got back) resulting in an underwater nose bleed. The 3rd and final was a case of conjunctivitis resulting in a call to DAN and a trip to the clinic where the hyperbaric chamber is located. In each case, Christi made calls to us checking up on our conditions. I am not sure if other operators would have shown that type of personal concern.Anyway, the diving was fantastic as usual. Everything was typical Cozumel stuff with trips to Palancar Caves, La Francesca, Paso del Cedral, Santa Rosa, Yucab, Dalila, Palancar Gardens, Paradise, Dalila Wall, and San Francisco Wall. Eleven dives in 2.5 days. The best part was Pedro guaranteeing a sea horse sighting at Paradise Reef and delivering. Nice job. Click Here to Read MoreBob a/k/a TexBob
The diving: The weather was not very cooperative for this trip. The wind was blowing pretty strong from the North /NE each day. Almost every morning we would get the call at our hotel. “ The port is closed…. Do you want to dive at Cenotes or wait for the 10:30 report”….. can’t complain we would wait and the “big pool was opened” at 10:30. Most mornings we left from the Caleta marina. More importantly— We got a phone call every morning. We would watch with some level of jealousy as a few divers left the hotel in the morning with their gear and we wondered for a brief moment…. Why do they get to go? Only to see them trudging back through the lobby about 40 minutes later…. Because their dive operation “didn’t call” or they missed the call? Hee hee.We dove with Blue XT Sea. Pedro was our DM and Mago and Adan our boat captains. Pedro finds everything from eels to nurse sharks and sea horses. Why I love blue XT sea diving…. I’m on vacation and they are a full service dive operation. From the moment we arrive at the boat my gear is taken care of by the crew. I’m on VACATION. I personally enjoy having this operation set up my gear (and Yes of course I double check everything before I hit the water.) Bottled Water is distributed constantly throughout the dive trip. Towels and REALLY nice windbreaker jackets are distributed to anyone who wants on the surface interval. There were only 5-6 divers on each of our trips (never more on these size boats.) During our surface interval there is ample amounts of fresh cut fruit usually watermelon and cantaloupe, juice and muffins/pastries or loaf cake (yum yum yum). The dive operation takes care of rinsing all my gear (with the exception of my wet suit and my wrist mounted computer) and has it back on the boat the next morning! Again I’m on VACATION! This helps make it more relaxing for me. I am not a very tall or strong woman (only 5’ 2) and although I can carry my gear if necessary….. um….. I’d rather not The boats are faster than the larger operations (we went to a number of dive sites in abut 15 minutes.) And you can’t help but grin when passing larger boats slowly traveling to and from .The crew even helps me get up onto the boat side walls…I am about 2 inches too short to get good leverage to do this easily. Short legs are great for plane flights… not so great for pushing up onto a boat ledge. It’s a very easy backwards roll into the water and down we go. We dove Palancar Gardens, Bricks and Caves, Pasa cedral, chankanab, Paradise, Dalialah,, Yucab and Columbia. The most turtles I have ever seen on any dive trip! 1-3 on every other dive! My husband and I went on our first night dive. It was incredible…. Multiple octopuses (even two “entangled” “Why didn’t I bring the camera for this money shot!”) crabs, eels, electric rays and puffer fish! Click Here to Read MoreScott & Roseanne
I just wanted to let you all know out there that I just got back from Cozumel and dived with this company. They were excellent and worked with experienced and new, nervous divers alike (I was the latter!). I would recommend them very highly. It is a very professional company and Christi’s staff are of the very highest standard. I had Blanca as my divemaster, and Arturo with the other, better divers, and we could not have had a better time! I was so impressed!!! Believe me, as a nervous diver, feeling comfortable is of the utmost importance, and they made me feel like I was a world champion. They obviously love their job and the reef and its inhabitants. You could not do better, as far as I am concerned. Anyone with questions is welcome to send me a private message. Click Here to Read MoreMaria & Stephen
Just back last night from a week at the Cozumel Palace and six days of diving with BlueXTsea dive shop. The Cozumel Palace was a pleasant and pampering experience. Good food, better drinks, nice pool area, spacious room, and great service. Wouldn’t hesitate to book it again. The wife loved it.With all the raves that BlueXTsea gets in these forums, I had booked to dive with them long prior to the 100% customer satisfaction rating they recently received from Scuba Diving magazine. Now I am not from Texas, so I am not biased one way or another, but, these guys really lived up to the great reputation they have built up. So during the week I was not only pampered on land, but also on the water. DM Pedro and boat captain Mago were excellent. Not just in the water, but on the boat also. They took care of everything. They set-up and packed-up all the equipment, which they took to the shop each night for rinsing and drying. It was relaxing not having to deal with the gear. They always took an hour break between dives where they would dock and provide fresh fruit, fruit juices, and a couple of kinds of snacks. They provided dive site recommendations, but, let the divers choose the sites for the day. As far as in the water, they both performed like the experts they are.Oh, by the way, the diving was great. Saw more big groupers, puffer fish, turtles, and large schools of fish, than I had seen in three previous trips in the last year. The reefs also seemed more colorful than in previous visits. This is a quick trip report on my trip to Coz. We arrived on Thursday, but the luggage (with all my gear) didn’t. It arrived late on Friday. We were diving with Christi and she was great, she offered to lend us gear for Friday, but my wife was worried she would be cold ( she gets cold in 86 degree water) and she wanted to wait for her full 4/3 wetsuit (and a 2 mil core warmer!!). So we didn’t get to dive until Sat. The Harbor was closed on Sat., but we were scheduled to do a Cenote dive sometime during the week, and Christi jumped through all kinds of hoops to change the schedule and we dove the Cenote on Sat. The Cenote dives were great (Dos Ojos, Bat Cave), I recommend them. The rest of the week was great, it rained some (but who cares we were already wet!!). Stayed at the Casa Mexicana, what a great hotel!! (thanks to Christi for suggesting). I will definitely stay there again, the only complaint I have is the TV didn’t have a video in port to view my pictures on, but that is minor…. Best dive of the week was the night dive at Paradise Reef. Saw octopus, giant crab, etc. Wonderful…..All in all, a great trip. Christi (Blue XT Sea) is a top notch operation, the DMs are great, the boats fast and Christi takes good care of you. Click Here to Read MoreChuck & Barbara
Blue XT~Sea is proud to have received a 100% Rating this year! Most readers commended Blue XT~Sea for offering “true valet diving – they rinse gear for you and have it ready on the boat the next day” and “boutique perks, including muffins on the boat, raincoats, and a staff that goes above and beyond for you.” The boat crew “allows divers to choose the dive site.” The small groups of four to six divers on fast boats were also appreciated, but a few readers said “the small boat can be uncomfortable in rough seas.”Read the full article in your October issue of ScuabaDiving Magazine on page 43! When I decided to go to Cozumel for Sept 22-29 on a last minute special I had to line up some diving with very little lead time so I contacted …Blue XT Sea…”cozchristi” When I emailed her it was late in the evening but she replied the next morning, quoted prices for what I wanted plus policy re payment etc, but due to my schedule I wouldn’t be able to get to the shop to finalize things in the usual manner (late flight, early dive pick up on a Sunday). Thankfully she emailed me PDF’s of the paperwork that I would need to bring to the boat all filled out, had an on line medical waiver I filled out, and I was able to send scanned copies of my C cards so that everything would be in place for my boat pick up as long as I produced the real C cards then, and paid my deposit by Paypal. With everything done I was told to be on the hotel pier for an 8:15 AM pick up, and what boat to watch for etc.Well the boat arrived right on time, and all the other divers were ready with their gear set up & all I had to do was produce the C card & paperwork & off we went, setting up my stuff as we traveled south for our first dive. My first impressions with the others was that they all were experienced divers and that was the case, no one needed special attention, we could all dive our full tank and surface individually if we wanted to rather than forcing your buddy to surface because you used up your air first.Well that day & the next one let us really test our abilities, the currents were very strong, and we had to abort one dive completely due to a current that had divers grabbing onto anything solid to catch their breath. Even after moving to what is normally considered a safe bet for gentle currents we ultimately got caught up by it about 3/4 of the way through the dive.Things got better each day, but the current this season was considerable faster on some reefs than I have ever experienced before, and that meant silty conditions with lower viability, but the water was warm, especially for a northerner. The photos will tell the story, and in 6 days I emptied 18 tanks most of which were 100’s and had one heck of a good time (I used up so much air on the aborted dive they gave me a fresh tank for the make up dive. Fighting a strong current while carrying a camera had me kicking pretty hard since my hands were already busy). Each day of diving was only with experienced divers so I didn’t get to see how new divers are treated, but based on what I saw I am sure they would get treated very well, we sure did.Christi has 2 boats, 2 captains & 2 divemasters and rental gear to suit your needs, and if you want they will clean & dry your gear & have it set up & ready for you each day when they pick you up. For the first time I took advantage of that service, but kept my mask & fins in order to snorkel in the afternoons. The business is run in a professional manner, and the boat was always on time, and on a couple of days when there was only myself & my dive buddy they picked us up in the truck rather than having to go to the marina & drive the boat back to town. Her staff are great guys, fun to be with, and always trying to be of help, and they really love their jobs and it shows. For anyone looking for some good diving with one of the smaller custom trip operators I can highly recommend Blue XT Sea, and something about them that could prove important that I learned talking to Christi is that as long as she has 1 confirmed diver the boat will go out for the morning trip, even if the cost exceeds the revenue the trip will produce. With a policy like that you are guaranteed to get your diving in even during the quiet times of year when other operations simply say no. Click Here to Read MoreLarry
My wife Lisa and I spent a week of diving in Cozumel June 9 through the 16th and thoroughly enjoyed our vacation. This was our third trip to Cozumel in as many years, and the more we learn about this diving paradise, the more we love it. This year, we booked our accommodations through our diving provider, Blue XT Sea Diving. Blue XT offers a variety of hotel/diving package deals, or as with us, they customized the package to accommodate combining our hotel, 5 days of diving and Advanced Open Water certification…. This was our second year diving with Blue XT Sea Diving and we love them. Christi Courtney runs a top rate dive service. Christi, all of the divemasters (Arturo, Pedro Pablo and Blanca) and crew (Mago and Adan) are professional, personable and committed to your service and safety. This year we included PADI Advanced Open Water certification as part of our dive package. We highly recommend this certification in combination with any dive trip to Cozumel. Combining the course dives reduces the cost of your dive package, and the training dives don’t disrupt your diving, but significantly enhance it. Christi sent us the study materials in advance. We reviewed the materials, filled out and submitted the required course work and the rest was diving – no testing, just pre-dive briefings and underwater skills instruction. Arturo was our AOW dive master and is an excellent and attentive divemaster. Blue XT also provides equipment valet service – easily our favorite service. They keep our equipment (except wet suits, or anything you may want to keep that day like snorkeling gear), rinse it, store it and have rigged and ready to go whey they pick you up for the next mornings dive. On your last day of diving, you take your equipment with you. We can’t say enough good things about the Blue XT dive team – we’ll definitely be back. Click Here to Read MoreSteve & Lisa Summit
Our first trip to Cozumel in 8 years, but our 7th trip overall. Diving conditions were excellent – gentle current and light waves. Only subtle down current in a few breaks in the Palancar chain that were anageable by all divers.First time diving with BlueXTSea divers on Cozumel and it will not be the last. They were great in all respects. Small operator with two boats that run fast with small groups. Briefings and surface interval dialogue with Divemaster Arturo were extremely informative. Other divers on the boat – who were diving after a two year break – commented on how comfortable they felt following his predive briefings. Pedro also did a great job as DM and has a knack for finding the small interesting animals. Seahorses are his specialty.Dives are well paced – meaning you let the Cozumel current do the work and maximize your bottom time. The boats get to the reefs early enough that you are among the first on the dive sites. Only once in two weeks did we encounter another dive group while down on a dive. When you see how many boats line up on the Cozumel dive sites, this is great separation. My buddy has a camera rig, and once the divemasters saw we were comfortable on the dives, we had plenty of independence to drag back a bit and focus on photos of interest.During one surface interval, Hector – our boat captain – did a 20 minute magic show with sleight of hand coin and rope tricks. He was very very good.We had scheduled dives over a two week period with BlueXTSea. Christi, the owner of BlueXTSea was great to deal with. She contacted us at our unit mid trip to check in and see how we were doing and how the dives were going. She even extended her home phone number to help us work to reschedule one morning dive that we missed due to a late night mopping up water from a big storm that blew into our condo unit.Christi’s philosophy is evident in the way the operations runs. Safe, fun, informative diving for divers of all levels who are passionate and focused on the enjoyment of bottom time. Partiers and ‘maverick’ divers who don’t follow general established dive briefing limits will probably best look elsewhere. I respect Christi and her team for the way they run the operation and will look forward to diving with BlueXTSea again. Click Here to Read MoreTom Witte
This was our first trip to Cozumel and we booked our diving with Blue XT Sea Diving. They offer a personal service that many of the larger operators cannot match. They have two boats, a six-pac and an eight-pac. They have wonderful dive masters and boat captains that are all very attentive to the divers. Our first day with them was a shore dive at Sunset Beach with Arturo, who was a scuba instructor. We asked for this because we wanted to check out weights and figure buoyancy. Arturo proved to be an excellent instructor/dive master. We received excellent site briefing and dive plan. Excellent viz (80+ft). Max depth we hit was 35 feet. We saw Yellow Sting Rays, Rainbow Parrot Fish, Blue Parrot Fish, Glasseye Snapper, Blue Chromis, Clown Wrasse, Yellowhead Wrasse, Reef Butterfly Fish and Sergeant Majors to name a few. Sunset Beach is about a mile from where we stayed at the Hotel Barracuda and has facilities for showering, changing, rinsing and a restaurant/bar for hanging out and enjoying some sun.The next day we did two-tank morning boat dives on the Shamu, a small and fast six pac but it was only us and one other diver besides the dive master, Juan. Juan was also a great dive master, pointing out many interesting creatures and letting us dive our own profiles. Our first dive was a drift dive at Palancar Gardens, Viz 80-100+ feet, 70’ max depth for a bottom time of 55 minutes. We saw Hawksbill turtles, Palometta, king crab, black grouper, lobster, many of the same tropicals as the day before and many more. Wonderful corals and sponges. Following this was a surface interval at a beach by the lagoon and fresh pastries and fruit for snacks and fruit juice and water to drink. They provided dry towels and had a thermal shower like you would bring camping. We spent a nice interval on the beach hanging out while the other diver and boat captain waded into the lagoon to look for crocodiles, which live there. Our second dive of the day was at Columbia Shallows and was incredible. Excellent viz, 100+, almost no current and many tropicals and wonderful corals and sponges. We also found several sleeping Nurse Sharks, Squirrel Fish, Yellow Stingrays, more King Crabs, and Barracudas. Note to photographers: No rinse tanks on these boats! Our Second day diving we were on Shamu again with Fernando as the dive master. Not as good a site briefing or dive plan as the previous day with Juan. With Fernando we really couldn’t dive our own profiles to the extent that we wanted. We did a dive at Palancar Caves; max depth was 90ft and viz was 100+feet. There was definitely a current that move us along. Bottom time was 45minutes. If I dive below 80feet I also do a one-minute safety stop halfway up in addition to the three minute one at 15 ft and this was not a problem for the dive master or two other divers in the group. This dive was through towering coral formations and full of caves and swim throughs. The colors, even at that depth are simply astounding and before coming to Cozumel something I didn’t think possible. There was definitely current at this site and literally pushed us through these canyon like formations of coral that were loaded with sponges, Hawksbill Turtles, lobsters, Spotted Morays, Blue and Rainbow Parrot Fish, many Blue Chromis, many different types of Wrasses, Reef Butterfly fish and many other colorful tropicals. We then did a surface interval at another local beach, no facilities and had excellent fresh pastries and fruit for snacks. Then for our second dive of the day, we went to Palancar Bricks. Max depth we hit here was 60 feet for a 50-minute bottom time. The dive master had us surface earlier than I had wanted as I had 1100 psi when I got back on the boat. I think there was an issue with the DM getting cold. We saw many more incredible corals and sponges, lobsters, Palometta, Barracuda and many, many tropicals. Our third day of diving was on the Bandida II, which is an 8-pac and had six total divers on it. We had Arturo again as our DM and Andy as the boat captain. Both were of course, excellent. Arturo lets you dive your own profile. We hit Paradise Reef first, 88ft max depth,55-minute bottom time. We saw a couple king-size Black Grouper. Water temp was 76 and little current. We did a surface interval at a beach, no facilities, more fresh pastries and fruit for snacks. Our second dive was at Santa Rosa Reef. This was a shallow site with a max depth of 44ft for a bottom time of 60 minutes. Nice and easy drift along a finger reef. Sand on either side of the reef. Saw squid, Black Grouper, Morays and many beautiful tropicals. Click Here to Read MoreTom Carlson
Cozumel Diving with Blue-TX~Sea. 4/12 thru 4/22. We arrived in Cozumel Wed 4/11. Checked into El Cid and leisurely dropped off our gear with Christi at Blue-XT~Sea that afternoon. It was not to be handled by us again until we picked it up today, rinsed and dry, ready to be packed for the flight home.Blue-XT~Sea packs the gear up each day and rinses it every night. When they pick you up at your dock in the morning, it’s set up and ready for inspection.Thursday morning at 8:15a, prompt as usual, Shamu was there to pick us up at El Cid’s dock. We made the next pickup and then with 6 divers aboard (capacidad) we did our first dive at Palancar Caves.Surface intervals are an hour or so and always at shore. BXTSea provides homemade cupcakes or finger sandwiches along with various fruits and fruit drinks and more water then you can drink. Mago provided salsa, guacamole and chips on a few occasions. They have towels aboard and hooded windbreakers if you get chilled. They always offer fresh water rinses after every dive.BXTSea’s consummate Professional Dive Master and Guide is Pedro Pablo. He has over 7,000 dives on Coz’s reefs and walls. In the grassy area near shore, he found two seahorses on one of the Paradise night dives. We also enjoyed diving with Juan, Arturo and Blanca. Now the important stuff: The Diving. I did 23 dives and spent 22 hours underwater. My wife and dive buddy did 26 dives and 25 hours underwater. Not bad considering we were using those puny little AL80’s.This was our first trip to Coz since Wilma. Is it obvious Wilma spent 2 days sitting on Coz some 18 months ago? Yes. Is the diving still great? Yes. Some sites were more affected than others yet everywhere you looked you could see the soft corals and fans recovering and that was fun.Marine life is abundant, as usual, and we saw all the usual suspects. Lots of turtles, Nurse Sharks (one was really big) and then there were the Pipefish and Garden eels. On Punta Tunich, the fish were so plentiful we had to dodge huge Scrawled Filefish, Midnight Blue and Rainbow Parrots just to keep from running right into them. Regardless of where you dive, you don’t see the huge Rainbow Parrots too often either. It was amazing how close they let you get to them. That dive usually has strong current so of course I didn’t take my camera on that one. Damn.Coz’s reef structures are amazing. The variety ranges from flat-topped rolling reefs to huge structures rising 50’ or more out of the sand. Swim throughs everywhere. Of course, there are the walls and some have sheer drop offs to 2,000 or 3,000 feet into the abyss. We did two night dives on Paradise. We know how it got its name. Octopus, Squid, King Crab, Coral Crab, Spiny Lobster, Splendid Toadfish and free swimming Green Morays and, of course, those seahorses. We did Maracaibo, Columbia Deep, and all the Palancars and, of course, Devil’s Throat. Devil’s Throat isn’t what she used to be. Wilma opened it up pretty wide. You could drive a Hummer through what was once a long and narrow tube leading into the mini Cathedral. Still it’s an exciting dive.We met really great people from Wisconsin, Michigan, Washington, Colorado and California. All in all, it couldn’t have been better.Wilma or no Wilma, Coz remains one of the top Caribbean dive locations. You can believe we’ll be going back!!! …and, thanks Christi, you have a great team. The diving was as fabulous as ever. I was grouped with various people who for the most part were accomplished divers. Up to now I’ve only dove Cozumel with good friends, most from D2D, and have behaved accordingly (i.e. safely but not particularly responsibly). “What happens in Coz, stays in Coz…” Diving with strangers requires some adjustment and restraint. A few times, it was just me and DM Juan for awhile when others ascended after reaching 700psi. Viz the day before we arrived was reportedly low but all my dives had viz in the 100-150-foot range. Temps were consistently between 80 and 82f. I ended up doing Columbia Deep and Shallow twice and would have been happy to do them a 3rd time. Tunich and Dalilah were joyous. Palancar was, well, unassailably magnificent. In addition to Juan, it was great to see DM Pedro and Cap’n Mago again as well as Adan. Awesome crew performance as always. My nitrox was consistently within a point of 32%, fills within a hundred pounds of 2800. Juan said he thought my computer was reading 200 pounds low, which might be true. We dove with BlueXTSea for the second time. They are a first class operation. Safe, accomodating, friendly, and on-time pickups. We dove with Blanca, Arturo and Pedro as dive guides. Boat captions were Pedro, Adan, and Mago. Mago entertained us with slight-of-hand magic on our interval. Pedro found a sea horse for us on the first day. The water temp was 79/80 degrees and we got a little cold on the first day because of the wind. The visibility was good to very good. We enjoyed diving with all of the other guests, who were skilled and considerate divers. Other than the seahorse, notable life we saw: turtles, eels, juvenile drum, HUGE crab, lobster, HUGE nurse shark, reef sharks, sting rays, leaf fish, sailfin blenny, garden eels, large grouper, lemon(?) rays, peacock flounder….. Blue XT Sea Diving/Cozumel Palace HotelTrip Report. We returned home late last night from a fantastic week diving Cozumel. We stayed at the all-inclusive Cozumel Palace Hotel and dove 6 days with Blue XT Sea Diving. The Cozumel Palace is an excellent place to stay and exceeded our expectations. The rooms are very, very nice and the service of the hotel staff was unbelievable. Waiters/waitresses bringing cold drinks and snacks (bar and otherwise) to people laying at the pool, etc. all day. Flaming dinner drinks at dinner. The enormous staff was unbelievably friendly & accommodating, and never had their hands out for tips. We previously stayed at the Intercontinental El Presidente on Cozumel and the Palace far exceeded the El Prez in every category. The location is excellent and you can walk right to the shopping/restaurant area if you want to do the tourist thing as well. We dove all week with Blue XT Sea Diving. This is a terrific operation with very fast boats and a “valet” style dive service. Both of Blue XT Sea’s boats are 6-packs, well equipped, and comfortable. The diving was exquisite. We had the pleasure of diving with Blue XT Sea dive guides/instructors Blanca, Arturo and Pedro, all of whom are top notch. I highly recommend Blue XT Sea. We were picked up at Cozumel Palace pier at 8:15 each morning. The valet service permitted us to leave all dive gear except for our wetsuits on the boat and it was all ready to go the next morning. What a pleasure. Thank you Christi, Blanca, Arturo, Pedro, Mago and Adan for a great week of diving. See you next year! Click Here to Read MoreCraig & Helen
We dove with Blue XT~Sea. I just cannot say enough about what a great operation start to finish this was. We dropped off our equipment and signed forms our first day in town. We never touched our equipment again, except to put it on and then pick it up from the shop on our last day. The divemaster, Blanca, was wonderful in personality and skill. Pedro the captain was terrific as well. The boat was very comfortable and fast. Snacks, juice and water were served during the surface interval. Bottled water was available at all times. Warm, dry towels (definitely needed them our first day as it was pretty overcast and a bit chilly) were very welcomed and appreciated. We dove Palancar Horseshoe, Delila, San Francisco and Paradise. By far our two favorites were San Francisco and Delila – the first for the incredible wall and swim thrus and the second for the abundance of sea life – saw two nurse sharks, turtles, and eagle ray, and a ton of other things. Awesome! I wish I had a picture of Blanca – she had an incredible smile! Oh, and I adored her even more when on our last dive there were so many divers at this one site (Paradise) for some reason (our first time running into other divers). One of the divers in the other group(s) saw something and was trying to motion to others to take a look, all the while holding onto the reef as he was doing so. Blanca was trying to motion for him to take his hand off the reef, and when he couldn’t understand what she was trying to tell him (duh?!), she grabbed his hand, promptly removed it from the reef, and pointed for him to get back with his group. You go girl! Kuddos to Christi and her great staff! Also met some other great divers from Alaska, Florida, California and Texas – it was a pleasure guys! Click Here to Read MoreBeth & George
Diving with Blue XT Sea Ya ! I finally got to meet Christi…I dove 2 days with Blue XT Sea. My D.M. was Blanca both days and Adan was our captain on the Bandida II. As usual I was not disappointed. They picked me up right in front of the Reef Club and it was just a short ride to the reefs. We dove the Santa Rosa Wall, San Francisco, Palancar bricks and La Francesca. I got to see my first shark at Santa Rosa Wall and a huge 6-7 foot green Moray eel at La Francesca. Blanca was awesome, showing us all the big animals and a bunch of very small animals. One thing that impressed me the most is when she went out of her way to pick up trash that was on the sea floor not once but twice. You can tell she really loves to dive and wants to take care of the reefs. I had a great time and would like to thank the whole group at Blue XT Sea Diving. Click Here to Read MoreRex
Cozumel Mini Report Here is all the news that is fit to print, in no particular order:1. Christi and Blue XTSea continue to rock. Christi oversaw the certification (referral dives) of P2 and P3 – made it fun and interesting for them.2. Shamu and her crew rocks. We had 10 glorious days of diving (only one day blown out and we were able to make it up during our two week stay) with a variety of crew – mostly Mago (Hector, the magician) doing the driving, Arturo and Pedro as DMs and Ms Christi as Dive Instructor and 6th wheel a couple of days.3. Our kids rock. Even with our newbie divers on board, we clocked an average of 70 mins per dive (they were killing their Mama on air consumption by the second day of diving).4. Did I mention Christi rocks? Christi has become a friend of mine over the years, but my review of her op is not biased by our friendship. I would not hesitate to recommend her to any and all who are looking for a fine, non-cattleclass Coz diving experience. The little extras like snacks, seemingly unlimited bottled water, rain jackets, towels, not to mention Christi’s care and commitment to communication and good service are what sets hers and very few other ops apart from the armada of dive boats on the island.Cozumel diving rocks. Yes, the effects from last year’s storms are evident on some sites (I could have cried at Columbia where the effects at depth were most evident to me), but there is still lots of healthy reef (can you say Palancar?) to enjoy, and wonderful signs of comeback everywhere we dove. We saw a great variety of critters, including numerous sightings of eagle rays, variety of eels, splendid toadfish (I found 3 on our first dive!), juvy drums, two sharks, numerous turtles, large groupers, octopus, the usual reef fish suspects, including large schools of grunts and jacks, and to Pedro’s glee, a juvy frogfish that he found sitting just so in the sand at 69 feet in Palancar gardens. We dove all of Palancar, several times as the Ps were grooving on the amazing terrain – bommies, swim thrus, tunnels etc etc. We dove Columbia (Shallows and moderate Deep), Tormentos (love those sand dunes), Chankunaab Ballones (where we had a surreal encounter with the submarine and its occupants), Paradise, La Franscesa (several times – love that healthy reef and its swim thrus), Santa Rosa wall, Las Palmas (killer current dive) and a couple of others that now escape me. 20 dives and we didn’t see it all. Need to go back :^)… Click Here to Read MoreJudy G
The Trip Not sure what to say other than wow! My girlfriend Lisa and I just got back from a great weekend trip to Cozumel.First I wanted to thank Christi for making this my best trip to Cozumel and one of my best trips anywhere. I emailed her about doing the AOW course with her and she recommended a plan that turned into a great trip.Secondly, I wanted to thank all of Christi’s crew and folks that were involved well. Thank you Mago, Adan, Jackie(sp?), Santos, Sandra and Jake (I still need the link ) Everyone involved were great to deal with and made the trip that much better…The Dive OpThe HotelChristi suggested Casa Mexicana as a nice place to stay in town that was close to her shop and the pier for daily pickups. This worked out great for us. The hotel is very nice, so nice that we felt a little bad about coming back dripping from the boat everyday, but they did not seem to mind The breakfast buffet was outstanding. Everyday it was something different and very good. The Dive OpBlue XTSea – What else can I say? Granted I’m a newbie with less than 50 dives and I’ve only done dives with a few dive ops in Cozumel, but I love Christi’s op. Great people, great service, everything I would look for in an op. She will be my first call anytime I think of heading to Cozumel going forward.Read full report on Scubaboard. Click Here to Read MoreJarrett & Lisa
Blue XT-Sea, what can you say but WOW!!! Christy runs a great dive operation. Boats run well are on time or early, never late to pick you up. Have never had boat captians that were so helpful and always smiling. If I didn’t know any better I think they like their job and enjoy meeting people. I have always have had DM’s that enjoy diving but Adan and Mago (the boat captains) were above and beyond. As for the DM’s we had Arturo (4 days) and Jackie(sp) (2 days). Both are excellent DM’s always trying to find what you request to see as well as the smallest critters. Both were excited to dive every day. Both wanted all the divers input as to where we were to dive that day. Blue XT-Sea is most definitely worth diving with. Click Here to Read MoreTom and Angie
Just finished three days of diving with Christi and Blue XT Sea Diving. Great time and great people. We stayed at the Casa Mexicana and due to it’s location, free breakfast etc. we only took one taxi all the time here. Definitely saved us a little money. This was only my second time in Cozumel and I now have a total of seven dives here. We dove Plancar Breaks on the first dive this morning and I have never experienced current like it was there. Sand was blowing off the hills between the coral and sometimes little tornados would form. It was also going down and I lost control for a minute and went down to 94 feet after Arturo set a limit of 80. I hate aluminum tanks but this was my problem. Vis was down to 50 feet or so but we saw the biggest turtle I have ever seen but he was smart and hunkered down behind a coral head. My buddy took a video just floating along and it looks like he is riding a scooter he is going so fast. Currents were weird all three days but I was told that it is somewhat normal this time of year. All the reports I have seen here about Christi and her operation were true. She is moving into her new shop and pulling a lot of hours but she had a smile on her face and was very accommodating to a couple of crazy old pilots. BTW, there is a little white building across the street and I think there is a small sign on it somewhere. Absolute best food I have eaten there. We didn’t do breakfast but supposedly the pancakes and crepes are fantastic. We offered to take the new kitten swimming with us – neither of us are cat people. Click Here to Read MoreAggieDad
Had read reports of Coz being destroyed after the hurricane. Not true. While soft corals did suffer compared the southern tip and there was some sand on the reef, there were TONS of neat things to see. Had read that the beds at Casa Mexicana were too hard, also not true. The hotel was wonderful and so central you could walk anywhere or for 3 to 5 dollars take a cab. Pickup was a three minute walk from the hotel which included a buffet breakfast with everything from made to order omelets to bagels.
The diving was easily the best we have found in the Caribbean including Little Cayman before their hurricanes. Although we only dived 5 days we saw loads of tropicals including smooth trunkfish by the bunches, queen triggers and queen angels, french angels, grey angels, sleeping nurse sharks, 14 turtles on one dive called Tortugas near Playa Del Carmen, two hunting octopi and some hunting lobsters on our night dive and an eagle ray and red lipped batfish on other days. Usually Queen Angels are shy but here they are used to divers as are many fish and don’t run away. Dive op grouped us by skill level most days allowing us to get in one 75 minute dive and many over an hour. Click Here to Read MoreKaren Guthrie
Diving was planned through Blue XT Diving – The night before diving we had a phone call to check on us for gear and a reminder of pickup time for tomorrow- cool beans. 8:20am- at our concrete pier here pulls up Shamu. Arturo says welcome and the boat captain helps with all the gear. They handled the gear, prepped the gear, hauled weights, and provided towels and fresh water after each dive. Totally spoiled us dog rotten! Before each dive Arturo provided a complete briefing on where we were, our profile, estimated time of dive, confirming our computers, and on the first dive reviewed all hand signs and dive procedures. Very professional and competent! One of his first questions before talking about the dive profile was to ask about Austin our son and his dive experience. I was very pleased that he asked and then asked us what ‘we’ felt comfortable with him diving. We did one day of diving with (two dives) for Austin and we had a great snack in between. He had a great time and asked if we can return next year. The next day was just Heather and Myself. The seas were a bit calmer, and the diving was great. We pulled some 45-50 minutes dives and the scenery was incredible. We floated a little ahead and spotted creatures for the three folks on board with cameras. Drifting in the current was a little strange but by the end of the first day- no worries we had this down pat. Yep- I am buying a digital camera and housing- that is the way to go. There was so much… you could take photos of it is just amazing. The density of the life and the size of the creatures was just unbelievable. We saw while diving- yellow fin tuna, multiple turtles, jacks, beanies, octopus, anemones, moray ells, stingrays, lobster, BIG nurse shark, great coral formations-hard and soft, barracudas, hogfish, you name it we saw it. It was just so intense. Please keep in mind I am usually a Texas Mud Diver. Thank you again to Christi her crew and the bounty of life that they shared with us. I would recommend them to anyone heading down to Cozumel…. Click Here to Read MoreCrazyDuck (Andrew)
We dove with Blue XT Sea based on the excellent feedback Christi’s company has received on this board and had no complaints. One of her two boats would pick us promptly at 8am each day for a morning of diving. The DM Pedro did a fantastic job of guiding and spotting marine life and the captains were helpful and friendly. One captain named Mago entertained us with magic tricks during surface intervals. The procedure for diving was when you got to 700 PSI, signal the DM and he would inflate a marker and shoot it to the surface on a reel. You would then do a hovering safety stop in the current without a line to hang on to. Upon surfacing the boat is usually right there to pick you up. Hand the captain your weight belt, BC, and fins. SITs are done at random beach clubs; you can choose stay on the boat, dock or visit the snack bar if you choose. The DM and Captain serve snacks and drinks (usually muffins and mango juice). The vis was always great and in late July the water temp were around 83F. You may want to cover your arms and legs whilst diving in a shorty as jellyfish stung my wife several times….. After the room fiasco was cleared then everything turned out great. The diving (with Christi) was great the DMs were fantastic and the whole ordeal was as pleasant as I have ever had on the island. Christi’s operation seems to be better every time I go down there and I certainly don’t know how she continues to improve on perfection but somehow she always does.I made 11 dives in three days and did not have a bad dive. To compare the reef conditions to when I was last there. (February of this year) I would say that everywhere I went they were better. The current is cleaning the sand away and the sea life is even better than it was before.I was really impressed with Arturo’s (Christi’s DM) description of the pier being destroyed. He told some of the newer divers on the boat that the construction company took out some of Paradise reef to make the pier. It was a shame that they had to do that, but you don’t mess with Mother Nature. She sent Wilma here and took back what they blew up. That pier is now becoming part of Paradise reef. The part that they took away, she is taking back.I must say that I enjoyed this trip as much as any I have taken to the Island, about 16 trips in the last 3 years.Read more… Click Here to Read MoreChuck
DIVING: Blue XT SEA. The name says it all. This dive operation is in a league of its own. Two very well maintained boats, small and fast. Personalized service. Very professional and experienced dive masters and captains. In addition to the diving I will mention below, I do want to note that my husband and I were Nitrox certified on this trip, and my oldest son and his girlfriend completed their Basic Open Water. The staff at Blue XT Sea addressed these needs with upmost care and expertise. Very special and heartfelt thanks to the entire staff at Blue XT SEA….. Click Here to Read MoreSue & Mike
We got settled in and made a run to Chedraui. Dan (my husband) and I were diving with Blue XT~Sea all week and we were both getting Nitrox and AOW certified, so we had made arrangements to meet Christi at her office to do our Nitrox testing Sat. evening. Woohoo, we both passed. I didn’t know if I would, since I was completely exhausted by then (after waking up at 2:30 AM) and I tend to get a little brain dead when I’m tired. Christi was really nice about having to explain things to me numerous times prior to me taking the test. She’s the BEST! Ate at the condo since it was getting late by the time we finished.1st dive: (Shamu) Christi’s “Happy Placeâ€. Christi was our AOW instructor and we were doing fish ID on this dive. I was terrible at it, that’s for sure. I did enjoy the dive site though. Saw my first nurse shark, a turtle, a peacock flounder, that I actually spotted all by myself (which I was very proud of) and many other varieties of fish (that I couldn’t identify).2nd dive: (Shamu) Columbia Shallows. I loved this place! Completed the navigation portion of my AOW cert. We saw another nurse shark. Of course Dan didn’t have his camera on any of the dives we saw nurse sharks. Maybe next time. Also saw turtles, two large barracuda, large schools of grunts. Tons of fish everywhere…. Click Here to Read MoreMartha & Dan
I dove with Chrisi at Blue XT Sea. Here operation is top notch. They picked me up each morning at the Palace pier and kept my gear so I never had to lug it again until the end of the week. First day was on her new boat Bandida II and the rest was on Shamu. I know Christi’s proud of her new boat, but I liked Shamu a lot better. Both are great boats though. Mago’s a great captain and very helpfull. Arturo and Pedro are great DM’s. Arturo let’s you dive your air to 500. Pedro is a little more safety minded and sets a time limit and a 700psi air limit. As a DM/Instructor, hats off to Christi for allowing her DM’s to set their own rules, but I do prefer to dive my air. In Pedro’s defence, however, his time limit was long enough to never be a factor, except on the last dive. Rita had a big enough leak from the tank that we had Mago make a quick adjustment and we got down a few minutes later than the rest. This was the only dive were we were stopped on time.Christi is all about customer service and she excells. She even managed to do some rearranging with two full boats to get us to Punta Sur on Thursday. I’d highly recommend her to anyone going to Cozumel. Click Here to Read MoreJames Goddard
Diving was with Blue XT~Sea who we always use. Christi once again showed us a great time and reconfirmed why we use her operation exclusively when in Coz. She made sure that we got to do an assortment of dives, half of which we had never done before. Considering we have over 100 dives in Cozumel, finding 5 sites we haven’t done is a trick! Having a larger boat helped get us to a few spots that would have been tough in Shamu… Click Here to Read MoreJeff & Mia
This was our 6th trip diving with Christi. Another great experience! A boat from Christi’s fleet picked us up at our pier at 8:30 each morning. As usual, her captains and dive masters were very professional and attentive. We dove all of the sites requested, including Punta Sur. The surface intervals were on the beach, lasted about an hour and a half. And as usual, Christi provided yummy snacks and juice. Oh, and towels too! There were never more than 6 total divers on the boat, and all of the people we dove with were great! It goes without saying, we highly recommend Christi’s operation to anyone. Dive Operator: BlueXTSea Diving
Boats: Fast boats. One 6 pax & one 8 pax. The most divers we ever had was 6; the majority of the time it was only 4. Absolutely awesome considering we dive in California and are used to 24+ divers on a boat. Incidentally, the other divers we met while diving with Blue XT were all very nice, funny, and accomplished divers. Both boats are covered, have lights for night diving and the larger one(Bandito II) has a private bathroom/changing area (if needed). Crew: Outstanding! We had the pleasure of both Adan and Mago as our Captains. Their accuracy at hitting the reefs was perfect. But most of all their assistance and patience helping us with our gear was wonderful. Our dive masters (DM) were above excellent-Pedro Pablo, Alan, and Arturo. These guys are amazing at spotting animals 100 feet away. Words cannot explain the comfort we felt knowing that we were diving with some of the islands safest and best DMs. And let me not forget to mention how handsome the entire crew is!Surface Interval (SI): Well timed, always on a beach with snacks, H2O, and juice. My favorite was the abandoned house-lots of interesting spiders and a caved in bottom floor. What one would call a real fixer upper! Maybe we can get it for a good price and open a SI Club {what do you think Christi?} Diving: Truly one of our best dive trips ever! We have dove Cozumel previously but only as day trips from the Playa Del Carmen/Riveria Maya side. I thought the wall dives were breath taking, the swim thoroughs were fun, and the drifts thrilling. Outside of the night dives, Maricaibo Fingers and Santa Rosa Walls were our favorites and least affected by the hurricane. Most of the shallow dives had quite a bit of sand and damage, but we always saw a lot of creatures. Best of all each dive buddy team is allowed to dive their computer. Most if not all dives lasted 60-70 minutes. Dry towels were provided after each dive and the sunshine was free! Click Here to Read MoreKaren D.
MARCH 27 – DIVING WITH BLUE XTSEA. Although it hardly needs to be said on this website, I’ll reiterate that Christi Courtney’s Blue XTSea is one of the best dive operations on the island. While the rest of our traveling group headed to town for shopping and a trip to the museum, I met captain Adam and divemaster Pedro Pablo at the Caleta for a two-tank dive. The first was Palancar Bricks. I was glad to see that the beautiful canyons are still there, though some of the spectacular color still doesn’t seem to be back yet. All the critters were in evidence though, including huge lobster, permits and barracuda. The second dive was Dalila, one of my absolute favorites. I love the fish life on this reef! Queen triggers, barracuda, big groups of cowfish and trunkfish (more than any other site, in my limited experience), grouper, turtles and a Splendid Toadfish! Afternoon at the villa. Our own Chef Carlos grilled chicken kabobs with onions, peppers and some kind of squash that looked vaguely like zucchini but tasted lots better. Can days get any better than this? I don’t see how! MARCH 28 – DIVING WITH BLUE XTSEA. I met the crew at Aldora pier for another two-tank dive. The first dive was at Maricaibo. I can’t compare it to pre-Wilma, as this was my first time at this site, but I can say it looks great. Turtles, lobster, huge nurse shark, southern sting ray and spotted moray eels all stopped by for a visit. The highlight for me, though, was the nudibranch that Pedro Pablo found for us. He was beautiful. I don’t ever recall seeing one in Coz before. The second dive was Columbia Shallows, and illustrates one of the many reasons Blue XTSea is such a first-class operation. When Pedro Pablo gave the dive briefing and said “maximum dive time 90 minutes,†we thought he was kidding. He wasn’t. With a maximum depth of 35 feet, we could basically dive ‘til we couldn’t stand it anymore. I lasted 72 minutes, but others in the group, who are apparently equipped with auxiliary gills, got the full 90 minute dive. In the afternoon, I met up with my husband John and the rest of the group, and we headed for the East Side. We were happy to see that the road around the island is completely open now, as are most of the restaurants and beach clubs. We had a late lunch at Coconuts, where we donated T-shirts. Hope to see them hanging from the rafters next time we come! Too tired, sunburned and salty to eat dinner in town, we sent Rachel and John in search of carry-out for dinner. They found a place on Avenida 30 that sells great barbequed pork and pineapple sandwiches. The meat is sliced from a huge slab of pork on a spit in the front window. Christi’s operation is just the best. So far superior to the op we used on our first trip in January that they can’t even be compared. Her crew of merry men are such fun and so attentive! The boat (Bandito II) was so nice and so fast, and Adan the captain kept the disco going with a fun music selection. One of the many things I liked about Christi is, even though she has nice big boats, she won’t send more than 6 divers out at a time, even if you are waving money in her face!!!! I told Christi that I wanted to get “lessons” (a nebulous term at best) so she sent us out with Javier as a private Dive Master. He is a wonderful, patient teacher, who broke concepts down into easy digestable bites, and watched and corrected our diving form. For our first dive he took us in shallower, manageable water to correct our weighting, buoyancy and form, then he took is into ripping current so we’d learn to go with the current and not fight it. He is an elegant, well spoken, intensely handsome man who wears his wetsuit like an Armani. I would recommend him to any new diver; it’s well worth the extra cost for a private DM to improve your skills!!!! Click Here to Read MorePamela
We just returned on Easter Sunday from 10 days in Cozumel. This was our fourth trip in 3 years. Rather than break down the trip report into a daily format, I’ll just summarize some of the points of the trip. Unless there is at least a $300 difference in plane fare, I will never again fly into Cancun, take the bus to Playa del Carmen, and take the ferry into Cozumel. What a waste of two days! I know for some traveling in a family the savings can be significant. I have been used to flying from Charlotte, NC to Cozumel in 2 ½ hours and be diving in early afternoon. It just wears you out.We dove with Blue XT Sea for 8 days. Christi was great, sent us to the sites we requested, and let us dive three tanks per day whenever possible. We very much enjoyed both Shamu and her new boat, Bandida II. Both are fast 6-pack boats with 200 hp outboards. Mago and Adan were captains, and Pedro and Javier were divemasters. Everyone was helpful and professional. Christi had Nitrox ready when requested, and even with aluminum 80s, we had no problem doing 60 minute dives. Most of the time we would dive air on the first dive, 32% EAN on the second dive, and 36% EAN on the third. Christi’s crew took very good care of our equipment and had it set-up when they picked us up at our hotel pier…. Click Here to Read MoreMatt
This was my third trip diving with Blue XT Sea. I know it sounds like a broken record on this board but I can’t say enough good things about Christi and crew. Just an extremely professional class act with small fast boats, diving to individual computer and air consumption limits, and wonderful DMs. I did not get to dive from the new boat (Bandida II) but was invited to the christening ceremony and got to go on an evening “champagne” cruise which was really special. It is a beautiful boat and should be wonderful to dive from… Click Here to Read MoreDoug H.
So we are back from our week and wedding in Cozumel, and I have to say that I am having a hard time staying focused on work at the moment. First off, I have to say a HUGE thank you to everyone at Blue XT Sea Diving. You all made not only the diving, but the whole experience for our wedding guests quite special. An “extra special thanks” especially goes out to Christi. She went far out of her way to not only make the diving great, but also helped us pull together an amazing rehearsal dinner for our wedding group as well (24 people). Everything you read about her customer service here on ScubaBoards is totally true – and both Marie and I consider ourselves truly lucky to have met her. It was hard saying goodbye on Friday – though I can guarantee we will come back to dive with her again. Now a little about the diving…. Click Here to Read MoreGreg A.
Dive OP: Blue XT~Sea OK, what else can I say about Christi and her crew? The attention to detail, diver experience and general needs and wants is superb. The service is second to none… I am a customer for life (ha ha Christi, you’re stuck with us!) Absolutely wonderful time diving and just hanging out with them. We now feel part of the “familyâ€. Christi went above and beyond making sure my engagement plans worked out perfectly. We will always be eternally grateful to her for making sure this was a perfect trip. Pedro & Javier are awesome divemasters and Mago is uncanny with his many skills including, but not limited too, captaining a boat. Click Here to Read MoreJeff & Mia
Diving: Blue XT Sea – Divemaster: Javier – Captain: Pedro (Mago had the day off): 1st dive was Santa Rosa Wall (75 feet). I won’t bore you with what all we saw on our dives…it’s all the usual wonderful stuff!!! Our surface interval was VERY COLD!!! I have NEVER been cold while diving in Cozumel so this was a new experience for me. Thank God for Christi’s lined windbreakers…they were wonderful. During our surface interval we heard that the diving for the rest of day might get cancelled again so we headed out before they closed it. 2nd dive was Paradise Reef. 39 feet for 1 hour and 6 minutes. I didn’t really get warm on the surface interval so I was a little chilled on this second dive. When we came up from the 2nd dive and got on the boat I was freezing!!! The water was very choppy and Pedro took us to the Caletta instead of to our hotel. They got us a taxi (there were 4 of us on the boat) and we got a warm ride back to our hotel (Blue XT Sea paid for the taxi! THANKS CHRISTI!!!). Click Here to Read MoreMichelle and Rick Hart
A group of 6 of us just got back from Cozumel last week and we dove with BlueXTsea and could not have been happier. Christi went above and beyond to help us out (even taking me to the airport to pickup my son that arrived a day later, to save the taxi fare and make it even more convenient for me) I concur with what has been said about her op previously, fresh water shower, fresh towels for each diver, homemade chocolate chip muffins, cold water and lemonade, SI at a beach club with great food (one day she made turkey sandwiches for us all), great DM’s (pointing out all sorts of stuff) and captains (right there when you surface), thorough dive briefings and all of the 6 in our group dove our computers. A couple in the group are air hogs, so Christi provided 100’s for them the next day without us asking so that we could all stay down as long as possible together. All 6 of us earned our nitrox certification with her, she is also a clear and concise teacher. 2 of us went on and got the AOW certification through her too… Click Here to Read MoreJ. The PWIDs (for the record, Post Wilma Inaugural Divers: AngieD, Mike and Boo, Christi and myself) got back this weekend from a week of dives in Post-Wilma Cozumel. I didn’t feel like doing a classic structured TR and these are just some random notes.• The storm left Blue XT~Sea’s boat Shamu as a convertible. I think of her as permanently topless now. The 200HP engine works just fine.• Because so many of the piers were damaged, many dive ops use the Caletta as the place where trips start and end. The Caletta is not a bad place exactly, but clearly it was not intended as a primary connection point for divers and their boats. Hanging out at the Caletta is a little like hanging out in the netherworld beneath a Disney theme park.• The deeper cathedral-like coral formations to the south (Punta Sur, all the Palancars) have 2-4 feet of limestone foundation showing that used to be buried in the sand. It reminds me of some of the Florida springs. There are entirely new swim-throughs and many of the existing ones are wider. Columbia Deep is now Columbia Deeper.• Blue XT~Sea still has the coolest surface intervals on the island, which often but not always included muffin assortments, fruit, cookies, juice, water and sometimes even sandwiches. Diving: We dove with Christi’s Blue XT Sea and will never dive with anyone else in Cozumel. With all the changes to both the dates and the number of divers Christi always rebooked us without any problems. I looked forward to what seemed to be her almost daily emails. In fact as we were just about to close the aircraft door I got a call on my cell and it was from Christi, she gave me all the information that we need to meet up with Shamu that afternoon at San Francisco Beach along with Pedro the Divemaster’s cell phone number. We meet Pedro (DM) and Hector (Capt) later that afternoon at 2:30. They were right on time; in fact they were right on time or early the entire week and even helped us with the nuances of Spanish grammar. After hoping on board we filled out all the paperwork that we filled out in Dallas, but left it on the desk of course. Through out the week Pedro always gave us the choice of where to go. He also gave us very professional dive briefings and we always felt very safe and comfortable with him. I have come to the conclusion that good Cozumel Divemasters 1. Must have gills 2. Have excellent vision. Pedro was able to locate just about anything we wanted to see. Click Here to Read MoreChris Brame
Very Special thanks go to Christi Courtney /Blue XT Sea Diving. She and her staff, Pedro, Mago and Javier were, as always, very accomodating and professional. We have used the services of Blue XT Sea diving twice before, and again we very pleased. We received top notch quality of service that puts this dive operation into a league of it’s own. Small fast boat, homemade snacks, fresh towels, fresh water shower and very personalized diving. Pedro and Javier, are exceptional Divemasters. We are constantly amazed at their skill and knowlege of Cozumel’s reefs. We not only leave this trip with amazing memories of so many different types of marine life, but also much improved diving skills. Mago, Captain of Blue XT Sea’s Shamu, has amazing boating skills. This gentleman can put the boat over a dive location with his eyes closed! He also is able to locate and pick up surfaced divers with pin point accuracy… Click Here to Read MoreMike & Sue Behm
We met christi of blue xtc the afternoon we arrived. this lady knows her business and knows how to custom fit her guests with the perfect dive package. She set us up with captain hector and dive master pedro onboard the shamu. This vessel had a top cover, o2, juices, fruit, sandwiches, dry towels and plenty of tanks (either air or nitrox). Pedro would give a detailed briefing for every dive and then jump in first so he would see what we were to expect. If the vis was poor or the current unpredictable he would take us to another site. After every dive as you came up to the vessel, hector was there to help with the gear and change tanks. They then would take us to a nice spot for our surface interval.
on the 2nd dive pedro would give a good dive briefing and then check the site… Click Here to Read MoreSmokey Braden
Blue XT-My husband and I had booked two days of diving. First day, I had some difficulty clearing my ears, seemed like forever to clear. (Need to dive more often) Anyway, got through it. Dove Tormentos and Dehlia. Alan was our DM and Mago the Captain. We saw the famous seahorses, however, they were not performing this day. They did not try and jump on our fingers. Next, day I did not dive, ear problems. Christi, did fit me and my son on the boat and we snorkeled as my husband dove. Palacar Caves and Columbia Shallows, Javier DM and Javier Captain. Both were great, my eleven year old on had a blast. Palacar, they saw five turtles and many fish. Third day, a great repeat of the first two. Overall, Christi may be a little more expensive than some Dive Ops on Coz, but well worth it. Once you dive with her, you will never look elsewhere… Click Here to Read MoreOliver Family
What I’d like to focus on is the superb service we received from Christi and her wonderful company Blue XT-Sea. I’m an experienced diver with hundreds of dives yada yada yada so I have seen many many outfits and I am confident to say that I know what it takes to make a good one. (sorry just wanted to qualify myself before I throw out these remarks) Boat: Shamu. I’d love to own one just like it. Fast as hell, clean, comfortable and kinda retro. The flooring in boat is superb. I fully dug the boat! It’s just perfect for diving.Captain: Mago. The first words that come to my mind are TOTALLY PRO and next would be FUNNY AS HELL! He is a VERY skilled captain in a place where that REALLY matters. Every time we would surface, there he was. Flawless. Every time I climbed up the latter there he was with a towel, bottled water and a portable shower ready to go. Really folks, amazing service and attention to detail. On a couple occasions Mago couldn’t make it so a Captain by the name of Javier took over and I found him to be outstanding as well and a totally cool Guy. Also, Mago is a hell of a magician and he’s quick to hit you with a few tricks during the SI. Very entertaining to say the least.DM: Pedro. Pedro is a first rate DM and really it’s safe to say he’s as good as it gets. He keeps track of everyone all while finding an astonishing amount critters almost everywhere. Don’t hate me but I’m a (gulp) DIR diver so my wife and I did our ascents and profiles a bit differently. After Pedro saw us dive he felt comfortable to let us do “our thing.” We never abused his confidence and always kept in contact with him throughout the dive. Honestly his profiles and ascents were damn near DIR anyway. Also, our gear is definitely unusual and a bit complicated if you’re unfamiliar with it but after one day he got it…no problem. Our gear was nearly perfect everyday minus a few minor tweaks here and there. I was VERY impressed with Pedro. That Guy is an awesome example of how a DM should be on ALL counts. He’s also hilarious, full of energy and a GREAT Guy as well.Owner: Christi. Cozumels Sweetheart! Christi will no longer be known to my wife and I as “Christi from SB that owns Blue XT-Sea” but rather “our friend” she is the nicest, most attentive dive related person I have ever met. She went waaaaaaay beyond the call of duty without ever being asked. You simply will not find better service from an owner. We shared a great meals with her, laughed, joked and became instant friends. She invited us to see her beautiful home and on that occasion we got to meet her dogs and cat as well. We will greatly miss her and we cannot wait to go back to see her, her pets and that beautiful Island again. Two thumbs way up!!!!… Click Here to Read MoreChris & Gina
